Cube processing option (processing options)

When you work with objects in Microsoft SQL Server analysis Services, you can choose processing options to control the processing type for each object. The processing type varies by object and is based on the changes that occurred to the object since the last time the object was processed. If the Analysis Services auto-Select processing method is enabled, the method that returns the object with the least amount of time to the fully processed state is used.

The following table describes the processing methods that you can use in Analysis Services, and identifies the objects that support each method.

Mode	Suitable for	Description
Process Default	Cubes, databases, dimensions, measure groups, mining models, mining structures, and partitions	Detects the processing state of a database object, makes the necessary processing, and transforms an object that is not processed or partially processed into an object that has been fully processed. If you change data binding, process defaults will perform "process all" on the affected objects.
Process full	Cubes, databases, dimensions, measure groups, mining models, mining structures, and partitions	Processes the analysis Services object and all of its contained objects. When processing all is performed on an object that has already been processed, analysis Services deletes all the data in the object and then processes the object. If you make structural changes to an object (for example, adding, deleting, or renaming an attribute hierarchy), you need this kind of processing.
Process Clear	Cubes, databases, dimensions, measure groups, mining models, mining structures, and partitions	Deletes data from the specified object and any low-level constituent objects. The data will not be reloaded after it is deleted.
Process Data	Dimensions, cubes, measure groups, and partitions.	Only data is processed, not aggregations or indexes are generated. If there is data in the partition, the data is deleted before the partition is re-populated with the source data
Process ADD	Dimensions, measure groups, and partitions Note: Process ADD is not available for dimension processing in Management Studio, and can write XMLA script performs this AC tion.	For a dimension, add a new member and update the dimension attribute title and description. For measure groups and partitions, add new available fact data and process only the relevant partitions.
Process Update	Dimensions	Forces re-reading of the data and updating the dimension attributes. Flexible aggregation and indexing of related partitions will be removed
Process Index	Cubes, dimensions, measure groups, and partitions	Create or rebuild indexes and aggregations for all processed partitions. This option generates an error for unhandled objects. If you turn off lazy processing, you need to use this option for processing.
Process Structure	Cubes and mining structures	If the cube is not processed, analysis Services will process all the dimensions of the cube if necessary. Then, analysis Services will only create cube definitions. If you apply this option to a mining structure, it populates the mining structure with the source data. The difference between this option and the process all option is that the option does not traverse the process down to the mining model itself
Process Clear Structure	Mining Structures	Remove all training data from the mining structure
