Custom paper type in Windows XP

In the Windows 98 operating system, the paper selection in the printer properties has a "custom" entry that is intuitive and makes it easy to customize the printer paper size, while the "Custom" location in Windows XP is different from Windows 98 and is difficult for unfamiliar users to find. Here's how to customize the paper type in Windows XP.

Create a new format

Here's an example of how to customize paper in Windows XP. For example, to define a custom paper type for a fiscal voucher with a width of 26cm and a height of 13cm, the steps are as follows:

Click the Start Control Panel printer and fax machine.

Step two on the File menu, click Server Properties.

Step three select Create new format and give your own newly defined paper a name, such as "voucher", in table name. Then, type "26" and "13" in width, height, respectively. Printer area margins can be tailored to your needs. Finally, click the Save Format button (Figure 1).

In this way, a custom paper type called "Voucher" is produced, which represents a 26cm height 13cm paper size.

Choose New Paper Type

Click the Start Control Panel printer and fax machine.

Step two right-click the default printer, and then click Properties.

Step three click general, print Preferences, advanced, and click the paper size Drop-down menu, where you can select the voucher paper type (Figure 2).

Attention matters

Item one can only create a custom paper type for the default printer. When you have more than one printer in your system, you create a custom paper type for the default printer, even if you select a different printer than the default.
