Debian is used to install the multimedia ALSA system environment-the Linux Release Technology-Debian information. The following is a detailed description. Here, the KDE environment is used as an example to illustrate that GNOME is similar to other desktop environments. I have installed the kde-core software package, so there is only a basic kde System, and many features are not available yet. You need to configure it manually, among which the multimedia sound system is one of them. The installation steps are as follows:

1. First of all, we need to compile the kernel. I chose a newer Advanced Linux Sound transport echture (ALSA) System to cancel the Open Sound System (OSS) System. Select your audio card driver under ALSA and compile it into the kernel. Use this new kernel to start the system.

2. After Entering the KDE Desktop Environment, run the following command to install the alsa-base and kmix software packages. the alsa-base software package provides the software support required for the alsa sound system, alsa-utils provides an alsa system management tool set. Kmix is a KDE mixer used to adjust the volume. GNOME multiplexing is included in the GStreamer multimedia architecture:

In the KDE environment, run the following command to install the tool:

Debian :~ # Apt-get install alsa-base alsa-utils kmix

3. After installing the relevant software, run the following command to configure the alsa system:

4. debian :~ # Select your sound card as prompted. If you select this option correctly, the prompt message indicating successful configuration of the alsa system is displayed.

5. At last, you can use kmix or gstreamer to adjust the volume. If it is a KDE Desktop Environment, you can perform a sound test in the multimedia configuration of the kde control center.

The device file of the ALSA sound system is located in the/dev/snd directory, while the device file of the Oss sound system is located in the/dev directory, such as/dev/audio, dev/dsp,/dev/midi,/dev/mixer,/dev/music,/dev/sequencer, etc. If the OSS simulation layer is installed, files such as/dev/dsp will also be installed in the ALSA sound system.
