Debian installation on my hard disk

My experiences in debian installation on Hard Disk-Debian Technology for Linux release-details are as follows. New to linux.

1. Download debian40r2, http://debian.cn99.com/debian-cd/etch/debian-40r2-i386-CD-1.iso

2. Download vmlinuz, initrd.gz from the overview page on the Internet. I downloaded it in http://debian.cn99.com/debian/di... nt/images/hd-media/

3. My hard drive is 80 GB

The primary partition of drive C is 8 GB in xp and ntfs format. The rest are divided into extended partitions, and the other is divided into 20 GB and fat32 in a logical partition D.

4. Put debian-40r2-i386-cd-1.iso,vmlinuz,initrd.gz to the root directory of drive D.

5. I installed maxdos6.0 on XP and used it for guidance. Restart.

6. Go to the maxdos selection screen and press "C" to enter the grub command mode.

Run the following command:

Root (hd0, 4)
Kernel/vmlinuz
Initrd/initrd.gz
Boot

The following is the same as the CD installation.

7. An error occurred while installing the network settings,

I chose DHCP because only IP addresses in the network of my organization are allocated by DHCP. As a result, I failed to get the IP address and did not care about it. After the result is installed, I will not be able to connect to the network, nor can I manually specify it. The problem was not solved after a long time. In the reinstallation, at this step, I chose to manually specify the IP address, all the way down, the second problem appeared again, after selecting the installation package, the progress bar stops at "559of580" and does not move, depressing, again, this is still the case. This problem has not occurred during the first DHCP installation. Later I guess it may be because debian is surfing the Internet with a new package, and the first installation failed to get the address, so there is no way to keep up with the new ones, but the IP address can be manually specified later, and the network can be connected. So I unplugged the network cable and installed it again. As I imagined, everything went well. I saw the long-awaited debian login interface. After the network cable is connected, the network can also be connected normally.
