First, the basic knowledge of System Restore
By default, Windows XP enables System Restore for all partitions, and it is not necessary to use restore functionality for non-Windows XP partitions. To be aware, System Restore is based on a large amount of hard disk space, and the restore function of some partitions is turned on the following steps:
1. Press the "Windows logo +pause/break" key combination on the keyboard to bring up the System Properties window;
2. Click on the "System Restore" tab, in the "Available drives" Select a non-system partition, click the "Settings" button;
3. In the Settings window that pops up, select the turn off the System Restore (T) checkbox on this drive, at which point the disk space adjustment slider will become grayed out;
4. Also turn off System Restore for other non-system partitions; The system partition, of course, can resize the disk space by setting the window. If you do not want to use System Restore on the system partition, simply select the "Turn off System Restore on all drives" check box in Figure 1.
After this setting, we only use System Restore for the C disk system partition, at which point the partition root will produce a folder called "Systemcolumeinformation", which is the file that the folder stores is the backup file of the System Restore. If you install Windows XP using the NTFS file system format, you will not be able to access the contents of the folder and only view the folder properties.
Friendly tips:
The "Systemcolumeinformation" folder is not visible in the default system state because it is hidden and has system properties, and the system defaults to enabling hidden protected system files and hidden property files. To view these files, click tools → folder options in Explorer. Switch to the View tab in the Folder Options window that pops up, undo the Hide protected operating system (recommended) check box in the Advanced Settings list, and then show all files and folders by selecting Hide Files and folders Item
Change System Restore automatic backup restore point cycle
By default, Windows XP will automatically back up a restore point for 24 hours per use system time, and we can modify it if it feels too long or too short. Since the system does not directly prompt for setting options, we can only modify the relevant data in the registry:
1. Click "Start → run", enter "Regedit" in the "Open" text box, return to open Registry Editor;
2. In the left directory tree, expand the primary key in turn [Hkey_local_machine\software\microsoft\windowsnt\currentversion\systemrestore], double-click the right panel one as " Rpglobalinterval "DWORD value, pop-up Modify the Key Value dialog box, enter the cycle time in the text box, where the time is in seconds, such as the default 24 hours can be entered" 86400 "(that is, 60x60x24 get, note in hexadecimal please enter 15180, ), users can refer to this data for modification;
3. Close the registry and restart Windows XP to take effect.
