Delete and restore Foxmail messages

Foxmail is an email software, but there are more emails in a long mailbox. In this case, the operation is required to delete emails that are no longer needed.

1. Delete useless emails

To prevent users from accidentally deleting emails, Foxmail divides the deletion into four levels.

1. Delete

In Foxmail, select one or more emails in other mailboxes except the "waste case", and press the delete key, or click the "delete" command (1) in the "email" menu to delete the email. This deletion actually transfers the email to the "waste bin" of the account.

2. Delete directly

If you do not want to delete an email directly instead of transferring it to the "inbox", you can select the email to be deleted and then use Shift + DEL to delete the email.

3. Delete from waste bin

When you confirm that some emails in the "waste bin" do not need any more, you can use the Del key in the "waste case" or the "delete" command in the "mail" menu to delete it. To delete all emails in the "waste bin" at a time, right-click the "waste bin" and click the "clear waste bin" command in the shortcut menu.

4. compress the mailbox

In fact, even if you use the SHIFT + DEL key or delete the email from the "waste bin", Foxmail does not actually clear the email from the disk, they are only marked with a delete mark and are no longer displayed in "waste case" and other mailboxes. They still occupy disk space. The system will delete them only after the "compression" operation is executed. To compress a mailbox, click the mailbox to compress. In the "Mailbox" menu, click the "compression" command to compress the current mailbox; click the "compress all" command to compress all the mailboxes in the current account.

Email compression aims to remove deleted emails from the disk to save disk space, and compress emails to reduce email redundancy and improve efficiency.

2. Restore accidentally deleted emails

In contrast to the email deletion level, you can use the following measures to retrieve the deleted email.

1. Recover from waste case

If the deleted email is still in the "waste bin", you only need to transfer the email from the "waste bin" to another mailbox. To transfer an email, select the email in the email box, use the "transfer to mailbox" command (2) in the "edit" menu, or drag it with the mouse.

2. Fixed the mailbox

After you use the SHIFT + DEL key or delete the email from the "waste bin", you can restore the email by repairing the mailbox by selecting the mailbox to be repaired. In the "Mailbox" menu, click "properties ". Click the Tools tab and click Start repair (3 ).

At this time, emails that have not been compressed will be restored.

3. Recovery after compression

In Foxmail, each account corresponds to a folder, and each mailbox in the account corresponds to a file in the folder. By default, the folder corresponding to the account is the folder named by the user name under the "mail" sub-folder in the Foxmail installation folder. The file corresponding to the "waste bin" in this folder is trash. Box. When the "waste bin" is compressed, Foxmail first trash. emails in the box file that are not marked with the delete icon are copied to a mail named "trash. box. TMP, and then trash. delete the box file and copy the temporary file as trash. box file. The compression process for other mailboxes is the same. The compression process of Foxmail gives us the possibility to retrieve the compressed email. For example, to restore the compressed "waste bin", the method is as follows:

Change the trash. Box file corresponding to the "waste bin" in the corresponding account to another name, such as trash. Old. Use special file deletion recovery software such as recover4all to restore the deleted original trash. Box file. Fix the mailbox.

However, this restoration method is theoretically feasible, but it is unlikely to restore the email. Please try your luck when you have no choice! In addition, it is recommended that you do not disable Foxmail when performing the preceding operations, because Foxmail is set to "automatically compress mailbox files that are too large to waste space" by default ".

Iii. Disable Automatic Compression

Because Foxmail is set to "automatically compress mailbox files that waste too much space" by default, it is best to disable the "auto compress" function for mail security. The method is as follows:

1. Click "attributes" in the "Account" menu ".

2. Click the "receive emails" tab and clear the "compress mailbox" check box (4) when the "waste of space exceeds [] %" under the "Mailbox" title ).

3. Click OK. In fact, according to my practice, the "compress mailbox when the waste of space exceeds [] %" check box is selected, and after setting a value, each time Foxmail is disabled, foxmail will automatically compress the mailbox, regardless of whether the mailbox space waste exceeds the set value. I wonder if this is a bug in Foxmail?

The easiest way to forget the Foxmail Password

Go to the Foxmail/mail folder in "Resource Manager". There are many directories with the same name as the Foxmail account. Go to the folder corresponding to the account name that forgets the password and put the account in it. delete or rename the STG file, and then run Foxmail to directly access the file without a password. Of course, you can also copy the account. STG file under another account to the account folder that forgets the password. The effect is the same.

Notes for reinstalling foxmail6.0
I. Backup
When it comes to Reinstallation, the first thought should be: Back up the email and address book, and keep a copy of the original email and address book before Foxmail can work normally. They are located in the "mail" and "Address" directories under the Foxmail installation folder respectively. You can also back up the "antispam" folder (SPAM database), the "template" folder (if you have a custom email template), and the "RSS" folder after upgrade to version 6.0.

Note: The file backed up on the CD has a read-only attribute. If this attribute is not canceled after it is copied back to the hard disk, Foxmail may fail to write content to the file and report an error.

2. Select the correct reinstallation Method
There are two methods to reinstall: overwrite the installation and install the new one.

The so-called "Overwrite installation" means to run the installation program of Foxmail and directly install it in the original Foxmail directory. In this way, Foxmail retains user information (including account information, emails, and address book) basically, all Foxmail files are replaced with the original files. General minor problems (such as the loss of Foxmail program files or virus infection) can be solved by overwriting and installation.

Sometimes overwriting installation cannot solve the problem, or in order to confirm whether it is a Foxmail or Windows system error, it is best to perform a new installation to ensure that Foxmail has no problems. The key question at this moment is how to import the original data of Foxmail to the new Foxmail directory. There are two methods:

Method 1: Create your own account in the new Foxmail according to the original Foxmail settings. At this time, you only need to copy the corresponding files in the original mail folder to overwrite the corresponding files. Note: create an account and copy the folder. Otherwise, Foxmail considers that the user name has been occupied and does not allow you to create the same account.

Method 2: Use the Foxmail import function. After installing the new Foxmail, you can click "Mailbox"-"import"-"Foxmail account" in the toolbar to import the original account, you can also create an account and click "Mailbox"-"import"-"Foxmail folder" in the toolbar to import the corresponding account *. box file.
In. Box inbox out. Box sending sent. Box has sent the mail box spam. Box junk mail box trash. Box payment box
There may also be aaaaa1.box, aaaaa2.box ...... And a series of Box files, which correspond to each created sub-mail folder respectively.

When using Outlook to send and receive emails, users often want to completely delete useless emails, rather than simply transferring them to the "deleted emails" folder. We can configure outlook to automatically do this when exiting by executing the "options" command in the "Tools" menu and using the "other" tab in the pop-up menu, select the check box before "Clear the 'deleted mail' folder upon exit", so that emails that are useless each time they exit outlook will be automatically deleted.
