The remaining options do not require special attention. Ubuntu v9.04 Desktop is selected because the CentOS does not drive the wireless Nic.

After Ubuntu is installed, pay attention to the following points:

Root User: After Ubuntu is installed, the default login user is not the root user and cannot log on with the root user. In this case, open the terminal window and enter the sudo passwd root command to set the root password, in this case, the user can use the root user, but cannot use the root user to log on to the GUI. Next, run the su command to switch to the root user, and then find/etc/TPD. conf file. In vi, change "AllowRoot = false" under [security] To "true". Save and restart the file so that you can log on as the root user.

Startup sequence: After Ubuntu is installed, the default system is Ubuntu. Different from installing CentOS, Ubuntu 9.04 Desktop does not provide the function of adjusting the startup sequence during installation. Therefore, you need to go to the system to modify the sequence after installation. The specific method is to log on with the root user, or switch to the root user in the terminal after logon, and then edit/boot/grub. in the conf file, change default = 0 to default = 4 (the specific number is determined based on the actual situation ).

NIC Driver: My notebook is DELL D630, and the wireless Nic chip is BCM43xx series. After installing CentOS, I tried multiple methods to drive the wireless Nic, so I tried Ubuntu and can use it. After Ubuntu is installed, a NIC icon is displayed in the notification area in the upper-right corner. Click it to bring up a dialog box for installing the NIC Driver, activate the driver, and create a wireless link, enter the vrossid SSID and other information.

Graphics card driver: I tried to install the nv135M graphics card driver on CentOS. This time I searched for it on the nVidia website. I didn't find the Linux x64 driver, so I got an x86 driver, the installation is successful according to the previous method. First download the NVIDIA-Linux-x86_64-185.18.14-pkg2.run file, the specific link through the search can be obtained. After the download, You need to exit x window to install it. The specific method is to use sudo/etc/init. run the d/TPD stop command to exit the graphic interface. Press ctrl + alt + f1 and a prompt appears. Then, execute the command directly. run this file to install the driver, there is nothing to pay special attention to the installation process, let the program to compile. After the installation is complete, run the sudo/etc/init. d/MCM restart command to re-enter the graphic interface. In this case, you can open the glxgears program in the terminal window, and you can see that the FPS is already several thousand. This should be a successful driver.

The CentOS steps are slightly different. When you exit and re-enter the GUI, use init 3 and init 5.
