Recently, 20% of the customer service calls Dell receives reflect spyware problems. To this end, the company will launch a security software package on the PC to help customers solve this problem.
In an interview with reporters at the Headquarters, Mike George, Dell marketing director, said that the security software package will be available in November, with firewalls and anti-virus software. The company will provide free software packages for PC customers, but users will be charged if they need to continue upgrading. George did not specify which software vendor provided the software.
Spyware is secretly stored in a computer and manipulated by others for various purposes. The worst case is that spyware may send spam to computers, launch denial-of-service attacks, and steal credit card data of PC users.
Dell users decided to release Anti-Spyware only after encountering many spyware problems. 14 months ago, spyware accounted for only 2% of customer service calls, but now it has risen to 20%. The more calls, the higher the company's spending, the higher the customer's dissatisfaction, George said.
Dell also plans to implement educational operations to help customers understand security knowledge and better use of security software. George said that starting from November, the company will allow users to use Microsoft's Media Center, with only 39 yuan for computer users. The media center does not include a TV regulator. At present, Microsoft's Media Center is able to classify pictures, songs and other entertainment products, but Dell is only compatible with several products.
