A few days ago, I accidentally upgraded the XORG-SERVER package in DELLInspiron1520, and there were several more SERVER startup items in the GRUB menu, which was quite unpleasant, therefore, in Ubuntu7.10, I tried to use the # sudoapt-getremovexorg-server command to uninstall the package. Unexpectedly, a series of problems occurred. The first problem was that X could not be accessed, and the system prompts that the video card could not be found, after the video card driver is installed, the system prompts that there is no sound card. It seems that this package is very important to unload it accidentally.
A few more SERVER boot items were added to the GRUB menu a few days ago when the XORG-SERVER package was upgraded on the DELL Inspiron 1520, which was quite unpleasant, therefore, in Ubuntu 7.10, I tried to use the # sudo apt-get remove xorg-server command to uninstall the package. Unexpectedly, a series of problems occurred. The first problem was that X could not be imported, the system prompts that no video card is found. After the video card driver is installed, the system prompts that no sound card is available. It seems that this package is very important, accidental uninstallation may cause a series of chain drive problems (mainly because many ALSA packages are uninstalled in cascade mode ). The solution is now posted to facilitate the solution next time.
Installation of the video card driver
At this time, X cannot be entered. First, you should download the driver to the Linux system required by the DELL trend 1520 graphics card. This driver package is still very useful. After decompression, you can directly run the installation script, next, you can complete the installation.
This driver package (driving on China): http://xian.driverchina.cn//display/NVIDIA_Linuxx86_drv17308.zip
Unzip the package and run it in Linux:
#./NVIDIA-Linux-x86-173.08-pkg1.run.
Generally, after installation, you can directly enter X by typing startx. However, the sound card driver is not installed yet, and the system has no sound. However, various operations are convenient, the interface is more comfortable.
Installation of Sound Card Driver
In fact, the installation of the sound card is also very simple, just looking for the Linux driver corresponding to DELL1520 has paid some twists and turns, because I am in CERNET, It is very inconvenient to enter the DELL SUPPORT website, therefore, ALSA was used to solve various driver problems.
First download three drivers:
Ftp://ftp.alsa-project.org/pub/utils/alsa-utils-1.0.15.tar.bz2
Ftp://ftp.alsa-project.org/pub/lib/alsa-lib-1.0.15.tar.bz2
Ftp://ftp.alsa-project.org/pub/driver/alsa-driver-1.0.15.tar.bz2
Because I wanted to download these three files slowly on CERNET, but it would be very fast if I used thunder to download them. Therefore, we recommend that you use WGET or GIGAGET to download them. The speed is quite high ~
Run the # tar jxvf command to decompress the three packages, and then go to their installation directories. Run the following three commands to install them: (because the machine was installed properly before, there are no problems with various ALSA settings, so you do not need to perform other complex tests)
#./Configure
# Make
# Sudo make install
After init 6 is complete, you will find that your system has been voiced after restart, but the MIC and headset cannot be used normally and no feasible solution has been found.
