Deploying process applications in IBM Business process Manager V8

About this tutorial

This tutorial describes how to install or deploy process applications and manage them. The process application lifecycle includes installing, managing, and undoing deployment snapshots. Although version control considerations are part of the lifecycle, they are not included in this tutorial.

As you develop the process, you can take advantage of the iterative methods supported by the tools in the process Designer. Similarly, using the IBM integration Designer (Integration Designer), you can synchronize and deploy to process Center, or choose to export an application file and install it on the process Server.

Goal

In this tutorial, you will learn how to:

Deploy a process application from process Designer.

Install a process application from integration Designer.

Use an offline process server.

Prerequisite

You need to be familiar with business processes.

System Requirements

Although we use the IBM Business process Manager (BPM) V8 stack to illustrate the steps, they also apply to IBM BPM V7.5.1.

Duration

It is estimated that the time required to complete this tutorial will take 3 hours.

IBM BPM Environment Type

A typical IBM BPM topology includes four types of environments that support the development, staging, and final installation of process applications. Some enterprises choose not to establish temporary environments, sometimes referred to as "pre-production". We do not recommend merging tests and staging environments. Table 1 lists the descriptions of the most commonly used environments.

In part 3rd of this tutorial, we talked about how to create an offline server from the Process Center console, and you will find that there are four types of environments listed: the development environment, the test environment, the staging environment, and the production environment, as shown in Figure 1. You can customize these original definitions contained in 99local.xml to implement your topology by modifying 100custom.xml. This is defined and managed by the BPM System administrator.

To test, install, or manage a process application snapshot that contains IBM BPM Advanced content or the IBM Business Monitor model, the user or group must belong to the Configurator, Operator, and deployer administrative security roles. If all of these roles are not currently assigned, use the Users and Groups options in the integrated Solutions Console to modify the user or group role.

One of the assumptions we made in this tutorial is that there is only one Process Center, which is clustered or in the IBM BPM environment.
