Describe the MISSING keyword in datafile name
Source:
Explanation of MISSING keyword in datafile name (Document ID 1050268.1)
Applicable:
Oracle Server-Enterprise Edition-Version 7.3.4.0 to 11.2.0.1.0 [Release 7.3.4 to 11.2]
Information in this document applies to any platform.
Symptoms:
Datafile name contains the MISSING keyword
Change:
The datafile is lost at the OS level and the controlfile is rebuilt.
Cause:
This datafile is not included in the control file reconstruction, and then the database is started. Oracle will create a crosscheck using the datafile list in the data dictionary.
If a datafile exists in the data dictionary but does not exist in the newly created control file, the name of the datafile will be replaced by the following naming format:
MISSING <filenumber>
Example:
'U01/oracle/product/10.2.0/dbs/MISSING00198 '-----> Note: This 00198 should be the file # (absolute number) of the missing datafile)
Solution:
No real solution is required. This article only explains the cause of the MISSING keyword. The normal recovery process is still valid and still applicable.
