Describes how to configure Cisco routers.

I believe that users who use Cisco routers have some knowledge about the configuration of Cisco routers. Here we mainly analyze how to use the Cisco router configuration master port OSOLE to connect VT100 and compatible terminals, and pass Win 3. X or Win 95 terminal simulation program for configuration and other router configuration methods, as a port device connecting to the WAN, routers have been widely used, its main function is to connect multiple independent networks or subnets to achieve optimal routing and datagram transmission between the Internet. This document uses the Cisco 2511 vro as an example to describe four Cisco vro configuration methods.

1. Use the Cisco router to configure the main control port OSOLE to connect to VT100 and compatible terminals.

This is a simple Cisco router configuration method. After the terminal is reliably connected to the router, the power of the terminal and the router is turned on, and the START process of the router is displayed on the terminal, when the symbol ">" appears, you can configure the vro on the terminal. If the vro startup process is not displayed on the terminal, it may be because the communication port parameter configuration is incorrect and you need to reconfigure it.

2. Configure through the terminal simulation program of Win 3.x or Win 95

Start Win 3.X, double-click "accessories" with the mouse, then double-click "terminal simulation program", click "Settings", in the drop-down menu "terminal simulation" select DEC VT-100 [ANSI], in "communication", select the parameter: baud rate: 9600; Data bit: 8; stop bit: 1; Parity: none; traffic control: Xon/Xo ff; connection interface: COM1 or COM2 depends on the actual connection ). After the preceding parameters are configured, click "file", click "save" in the drop-down menu, name the configuration file, select the path, and click "OK ". You only need to open the configuration file and press enter to go to the Cisco router configuration page. The configuration method of Win 95 is similar to that of Win 3.x.

3. Configure through Terminal simulation Telnet on TCP/IP network

There are Telnet terminal simulation programs on UNIX, OS/2, Win 95, and other operating systems, and the IP address of the telnet 145.1.1.5 router is run through the host on the Network ), enter the correct password to log on to the vro on the network for configuration. If "password required, but none set" is displayed, it indicates that the password is not defined in vty 04 of the router and must be added.

4. Use the configuration file downloaded by the TFTP Server for configuration.

The UNIX and OS/2 operating systems provide the TFTP server function. Taking OS/2 as an example, running ftfpd in the DOS window of OS/2 shows: IBM TCP/IP OS/2-TFTP Server version 19:50:56 ON dEC 7 1995 is ready to log ON to the vro in the first three ways. 145.1.1.1 is the server running TFTP and the host where the Cisco router configuration file is located. If the prompt "There are no usable interface configured for ip" appears, it indicates that the Ethernet 0 Ethernet port of the router is not configured.
