Detailed description of Static Routing and Dynamic Routing

Many people do not understand the main differences and links between Static Routing and dynamic routing. So I have studied the comprehensive knowledge of Static Routing and dynamic routing. I will share it with you here, I hope it will be useful to you. Static Routing refers to the routing information manually configured by the network administrator. When the network topology or link status changes, the network administrator needs to manually modify the Static Routing Information in the routing table.

Static Routing information is private by default and will not be transmitted to other routers. Of course, network administrators can also make vrouters shared by setting them. Static Routing is generally applicable to a relatively simple network environment. In such an environment, the network administrator can easily understand the network topology and set the correct routing information. The following are two instances suitable for Static Routing.

If A Network other than Network 1 must pass through router A and router B when accessing Network 1, the Network manager can set A static route information pointing to router B in Router. This can reduce the amount of data transmitted on the WAN link between vroa A and vrob B, because after the network uses A static route, there is no need to exchange routing information between router A and router B. In a network that supports DDRdial-on-demand routing, the dial-up link is only available when needed. Therefore, it cannot provide route information changes for the dynamic routing information table. In this case, the network is also suitable for Static Routing.

Another advantage of using static routing is the high security and confidentiality of the network. Because dynamic routing requires frequent exchange of Route tables between routers, the analysis of the route table can reveal the network topology and network address information. Therefore, static routing can also be used for security considerations. Static Routing is usually not suitable for large and complex network environments. On the one hand, it is difficult for the network administrator to fully understand the topology of the entire network. On the other hand, when the topology and link status of the network change, the static routing information in the router needs to be adjusted in a wide range, this work is difficult and complex.

Dynamic Routing means that a vro can automatically create its own route table and adjust it according to actual changes. The operation of the dynamic routing mechanism depends on two basic functions of the router: maintenance of the route table; timely exchange of route information between routers. The routing information exchange between routers is based on the routing protocol. We can intuitively see the process of route information exchange. The ultimate goal of route information exchange is to find the "best" path for data exchange through the route table.

Each routing algorithm has a set of principles for measuring "best. Most algorithms use a quantified parameter to measure the path. Generally, the smaller the parameter value, the better the path. This parameter can be calculated by a specific feature of the path, or by combining multiple features. Several common features are: ro node hop count included in the path), network transmission fee (cost), bandwidth), latency (delay), load), and reliability (reliability) and the maximum transmission unit MTUmaximum transmission unit ).
