1. drag an image to the new layer icon at the bottom of the layer panel to copy the background layer. Name it "basic light ". On the layers panel, select this layer and press Ctrl + M (CMD + M) to apply the curve. Adjust to a very strong curve to maximize the contrast of the cloud, so that a small area of the area completely becomes white. I focus my attention on the third small area on the top of the left, where light will penetrate from the clouds.

2. apply Gaussian blur of two pixels to the layer. (Filter> blur> Gaussian blur)

3. Temporarily disable the basic light layer and select the background layer. Select the polygon loose plug-in (L) and set the feather value in the tool attribute column at the top of the screen to 50.

4. draw a rough selection area in the sky area that passes through the light. this is the selection area I drew in the quick mask view mode.

5. create a new curve adjustment layer above the background layer. The selected area will be automatically applied as a layer mask, and the curve will be adjusted to a setting similar to the previous curve. However, this time we hope the margin will be smaller so that the shadow part will not be affected, name the layer "light source ".

6. Open and select "basic Light Layer ". Select the single row selection tool in the toolbar. Enlarge the cloud-colored white part of the image and click in the middle to select a line of pixels spanning the image.

7. zoom out the image so that you can see the whole picture. Select the rectangle selection tool, press the alt or option key, and draw a selection area from the leftmost side of the image until the left side of the cloud white area, so that the selection area on the left is canceled. Use the same method on the right side. You should get a constituency similar to that across the entire white area.

8. select the basic light layer and press Ctrl + J to create a new layer for the selected pixel. Name this layer: light 1.

9. disable the basic light layer ". Select the light 1 layer. Press Ctrl + T to change the layer freely. drag the center handle at the bottom to extend it to the position of the ship in the picture. Hold down the Ctrl key and drag the same handle to the right so that it is under the ship. Press Ctrl + Shift and drag the lower left and lower right handles outward until you get a satisfactory shape.

10. you can notice that the freely transformed preview image does not seem very smooth, because Photoshop processes pixels in a row. This technology is called Pixel stretching. It will be okay after confirmation of free transformation.

11. on the layer panel, adjust the blending mode of the layer "light 1" to filter the color. Press Ctrl + M to apply the curve to the layer. Drag the curve down to darken the layer until the light is displayed.

12. click "Add Layer mask" at the bottom of the layer panel to add a mask to the layer. On the layers panel, click a mask to select it, press Ctrl + M to apply the curve to it, reduce the highlight to 50%, and click OK.

13. select the polygon plug-in (L) and set the feather value to 15 this time. Select the middle part of the light from start to end. The following is my selection area in the quick mask mode.

14. select the "light 1" layer mask and press Ctrl + M to apply the curve. This time, the Shadow points are raised to 50%. This will make the middle part of the light brighter than the edge.

15. select the gradient tool by G when the mask is selected. Click gradient preview in the upper left corner of the screen and set the gradient to a black to white gradient. In the attribute column, set the gradient mode to the front slice. Pull the gradient from the top to bottom of the light. Select Edit> gradient. Set the fade-out value to 50%, which will create the attenuation effect of the light line. The advantage of applying the fade-out gradient is that the bottom of the light will not disappear.

16. select the background layer, select the elliptical selection tool, and press and hold the Alt key to draw a flat elliptical selection area around the bottom of the light. Click Q to enter the quick masking mode. Select filter> blur> Gaussian blur to set the radius value to 5. Choose filter> blur> dynamic blur. set the angle to 0 and the distance to 150. Click Q again to exit the quick mask mode.

17. create a curve adjustment layer on the top of the background layer to increase the brightness of the water surface, as if the light was hitting the water surface.

18. I want to add some contrast to the entire image. So I created a new curve layer above the entire layer in the layer panel to adjust the curve to increase the contrast.

Repeat steps 3 to 7 to create more light you want. But pay attention to the light projection angle. they should look like they are from the same light source. I created three different lights in the image.
