Detailed steps for installing and configuring backup Exec 12.5 Oracle agent on Linux systems

One, installation part

Backup exec is a data protection product primarily for Windows platforms, but it also includes agents for Linux or UNIX. To understand which Linux or UNIX systems you are using for Backup Exec, visit the Software Compatibility List on the technical Support website, taking the be10d, which is currently the largest number of users, as an example, its Compatibility List URL is:

You can find two agent products for Linux or Unix in the Software Compatibility List, and their compatibility is different:

Remote agent for Linux and UNIX Servers (ralus) compatibility//i.e. Ralus, new agent, charging, high performance.

Legacy Linux/unix/mac compatibility//traditional agent program, free, low performance, will be replaced by Ralus later.

After you have checked the compatibility list, you may consider using Backup Exec to protect your system if you are using an operating system that is included in the Compatibility List. If the system you are using is not listed in the Compatibility List, there may be a compatibility issue, and it is recommended that you test it before you purchase it.

The following describes the installation of Ralus (the Legacy agent is now rarely used, and is not introduced)

The following assumes that your media server (the backup server that is installed with Backup Exec) has already been installed and has the Ralus option installed.

First, the Ralus installer is large and is provided on a separate disc. If you do not have a CD, you can also download it via the Symantec Web site:

Remote Agent Media Server Configuration

To display the Remote Agent as a selection in a media server ' s backup selection tree, with to is able to specify a local NE Twork for use between the Remote Agent and a media server, enter the names or IP addresses of the media servers so you W Ant the Remote Agent to communicate with.

Enter a directory Host:mybeserver//Enter the name of the backup server, Ralus periodically notifies the backup server of its presence, and the backup server displays the Linux/unix host in the Backup Selection window when you receive the notification.

Remote Agent User Group Setup

To perform backups, you must have a ' beoper ' user group. This user group can is created only if you are are not using NIS server. Your system'll is scanned to detect a NIS server, group and membership.
