Detailed steps for partitioning an extended partition using the DiskPart tool

In the installation of the system partition of the hard disk and after the installation of the system we learned that the MBR partition table only supports up to 4 primary partitions, some of which need to partition more partitions, it will involve the use of the system's own DISKAPRT command to partition the extended partition and logical partitions, the following describes the detailed methods of operation

(due to improper partition operation may result in data loss, it is recommended that you copy the important data to the USB flash drive or mobile hard disk, if there is encrypted data, please decrypt the backup and then perform the operation)

The following image error occurs when the primary partition is larger than 4 partitions again (although there is enough space, the partition table does not have a primary partition to divide due to system limitations)

Solution:

Test system: Window 7

The status before partitioning is shown in the figure:

Now there are two primary partitions, one is the 100M boot partition of the system, the other is the C disk that is divided when the system is installed, and the remaining 10G space is the extended partition of this minor partition.

Please go to the desktop, click "Start", enter "cmd", see the search results of the cmd icon, right-click, select "Run as Administrator", as shown below:

The command Prompt window opens, please enter "DiskPart" and press ENTER to open the DiskPart Disk Management tool;

Next, enter "list disk" To view the current disk status, as shown below

As shown in the figure, the 50G "Disk 0" is the disk we need to perform operations, enter "SEL Disk 0" carriage return below, select the disk, as shown:

The next step is to set all the remaining unallocated space to an extended partition, so enter "create par extended". See the following tips:

When you see "DiskPart successfully created the specified partition" prompt, close the window, right-click the desktop computer icon-management-Disk Management, view the current disk status;

Disk Management, you can see that the 10G partition has turned green, proving that the extended partition has been created successfully, as shown in figure

Next right click on the partition has become green, select "New Simple Volume" can complete the partition operation, the partition, the green area of the partition format all become "logical Partition", because the extended partition can support countless logical partitions, in the subsequent partitioning process will not error.
