Details: how to define the scope of the DHCP server

After learning about the previous installation process of the DHCP server, we will mainly explain the definition of the scope. To create a new scope, on the DHCP server management console, select a server with this scope and right-click it to bring up the context menu 15-7. This menu creates a new scope, a new super scope or multicast scope. Because of the purpose of this book, only the general scope is involved here.

The multicast domain implements MADCAP to provide the multicast IP Address class D) to the client. The super scope actually binds the scope of a network segment to a larger logical entity, which is very useful for the transfer between address pools. The creation and management of new super scopes and multicast scopes are similar to normal scopes.

1) Open the DHCP server management interface.

2) Move the focus to the server node, right-click it to open the context menu.

3) Select "NewScope" to start the wizard. If "NewSuperscope" or "NewMulticastScape" is selected, a wizard is started to collect the required information.

4) enter the name and description of the scope. These attributes can be modified later in the attribute window of the scope. Click "Next ".

5) enter the start and end IP addresses to define the IP address pool. Enter a subnet mask in decimal format separated by periods. You can also specify the binary length of the network part of the IP address. Figure 15-8 shows the operation. Some IP addresses of the B-class network are allocated to the address pool. The last byte of the IP address is the subnet number. Click "Next" after the definition ".

6) "NewScopeWizard" provides a window in which IP addresses listed are excluded from the scope. No need to exclude any addresses, and you can modify the list later. Click "Next"

7) the default eight-day rental period can also be changed. When changing the lease term, you must understand the possible impact of the change, especially for any DDNS cleanup that may be enabled. Accept the default value or set a value, and then click "Next ".

8) Select whether to set the new scope. These options can be set manually, but it is more convenient to use the default value if you have multiple scopes. Click "Next" after making the selection ".

9) If you select to configure the option later, the Operation will end. Otherwise, you need to provide some settings, such as the gateway value, the DNS domain of the client, the DNS server used by the client, and the WINS server, on one screen and one screen. After that, you also need to select whether to activate the scope immediately.

After you click "Finish", the new scope is added to the bottom of the server in the long box on the left, as shown in 15-9. There is no need to exclude any addresses from the scope. Expand the scope node in the Management window at any time, and then use the "NewExclusionRange" option for the address pool node to modify the excluded IP address. For a similar lease term, you can use the attribute settings of the scope at any time. The unit is days, hours, minutes, and up to 999 days. Remember to coordinate with DDNS configuration while adjusting the lease term.

The newly created scopes are now listed in the Management Console. There is a white circle on the corresponding folding folder, and a down Red Arrow inside the White Circle. In this example, the lower one is hq. example. The downward arrow icon indicates that the scope has not been enabled. In the context menu of this scope, only "Activate" is available, but "Deactive" is not available. It is best to set the scope option before using this scope lease.

Note that you do not need to delete the scope before creating a scope. You only need to disable the scope to maintain or diagnose the scope. This is very convenient. This method is usually used in the super domain to ensure that the existing client will not be discarded. The super domain is a set of scopes, but is used like a separate scope.
