1. Introduction of equipment Management
Devices in AIX are managed in a tiered fashion.
At the top is the functional classification, which is grouped by the same basic function, for example, all adapter cards belong to the adapter class.
The next level is a functional subclass, divided according to a clearer specific nature, such as a standard input/output adapter card and a Microchannel adapter, where the standard input/output adapter card belongs to the Sio functional subclass, and the Microchannel adapter card belongs to the MCA functional subclass.
The last level is the type subclass, which distinguishes the device by type and manufacturer. For example, under the Sio feature subclass there are 8FBA (standard SCSI I/O control cards), fda_2 (standard I/O disk adapter cards), and Ient_6 (built-in Ethernet adapter card). There is a sio_2 (micro-channel I/O motherboard) device type under the MCA functional subclass.
