Difference between "pop-up" and "secure deletion" of USB devices

Think of writing this articleArticleThe main cause is a confusion in the use of Kindle.

Although the Kindle comes with an independent charger, I still like to connect to the computer for charging, because I can copy new files to it while charging. However, I encountered a very strange problem during use: connecting to a computer, after copying the file, I may want to directly operate the device while charging, the Kindle screen is still displayed as a USB connection and cannot be operated at all.

I read the instruction carefully and mentioned this in the instruction manual,The statement in the manual is: in Windows, you only need to bring up the device, you can operate the device while charging through the USB interface of the computer.

But why can't I achieve it? After careful research, we found that there are actually two completely different "pop-up" methods for Windows. Their functions are similar, but they differ greatly in principle.

First, open the "computer" window, right-click the removable storage device, and the "pop-up" option will be provided in the right-click menu, for example:

If you click the "secure delete" icon in the notification area in the lower-right corner of the desktop, you can also see the "pop-up" option:

Usually I am used to this option in the notification tray, because it looks faster and does not need to open a new window, directly in the currentProgramThe interface is displayed at any time.

Back to the question at the beginning. In fact, the "pop-up" method mentioned in the Amazon manual can only be the one in the first graph; the "pop-up" of the second image I used to use directly causes the operation to fail after the pop-up.

In fact, in Windows 7, after you point the mouse pointer to the icon in the notification tray, you can see the description text of "safely delete hardware and bring up media, in fact, this string of text already shows the essential differences between the two options (unfortunately, it is not intuitive enough ).

    • "Pop-up" in Resource Manager: if this "pop-up" is used, the system will only pop up on an external device that has been mounted to the file system in the system, however, the connection between the device and the system still exists.
    • Safely delete the hardware and "Pop Up": if this "pop up" is used, the system will pop up the mounted file system and disconnect the external device from the system.

For example, if you use a multi-in-one card reader, you can use the "pop-up" command in the resource manager to "pop-up" the memory card placed in the card reader. However, the connection between the card reader and the system is still maintained, therefore, you can directly use the new memory card.

However, if you use the "pop-up" in the notification area, not only the memory card, but the card reader itself will also be disconnected from the system. In this case, if you want to read another memory card, the USB connection between the card reader and the computer must be disconnected and reconnected.

To avoid confusion, it may be better to change the name of "pop-up" in the notification area to "secure removal.
