Apart from significant technical differences between SQL Server and Oracle databases, there are also significant differences in implementation costs. I will share some of my views on this topic and hope to communicate with you.
1. Oracle is developed based on JAVA and has many open source tools.
One of the biggest differences between SQL Server and Oracle databases is their application platform. Currently, SQL Server databases can only be deployed on Microsoft's operating system. Oracle databases support not only Microsoft's operating systems, but also open-source operating systems, such as Linux. It is precisely because Oracle databases are developed on the JAVA technology platform that makes it possible to run on a cross-platform operating system.
Because JAVA programs are free and open-source, many programmers can develop some free auxiliary tools that can be used with Oracle databases on this JAVA platform, such as some report tools. These free open-source tools can be directly used by our database developers, saving us a lot of development time and costs.
However, because the development architecture of SQL Server is not based on an open-source platform, some third-party tools that support SQL Server databases are often charged. This increases the cost of deploying SQL Server databases.
Currently, many Oracle database developers use more or less open-source tools when developing database systems. For example, in terms of report design and menu design, there are some open-source tools with strong functionality. With the help of these open-source tools, our database administrators can multiply the development time to reduce development costs. In this respect, due to the inherent advantages of Oracle databases, it has made great advantages in third-party tool applications from the perspective of cost.
2. Oralce provides many billing tools.
For the price of a single database, the two databases are not very different. However, when using the Oracle database for development, you often need to purchase some of the tools it provides. Such as PL * SQL. These are all paid database development tools provided by Oracle database.
However, even though these database development tools are billed, the cost is not low. But for most database developers, these tools are really indispensable. Because of the high availability of these tools, the database development time can be greatly reduced and the cost of database development can be reduced. For example, when I was developing database applications, I had to leave PL * SQL. He has helped the author in database maintenance, database development, and report production. It can be said that most of the database development work can be completed on this tool, and the efficiency is much higher than other tools.
For SQL Server databases, to develop application systems on this database system, you generally only need to purchase this database software. In database software, some free database development tools are integrated. This makes it unnecessary for us to purchase other development tools when developing database applications. In this respect, SQL Server databases are dominant.
Iii. Oracle-related technical personnel are worth the money.
In the Talent Market, if an enterprise wants to recruit Oracle database development or maintenance talents of the same grade, it will often have to pay a higher labor cost than other database management personnel. In other words, when applying for a database manager of the same grade, Oracle database managers often offer high prices.
On the one hand, the Oracle database design is relatively complicated. This causes the Oracle database administrator to pay more for both database development and subsequent database maintenance than other database administrators. In addition, it involves more extensive knowledge.
Second, Oracle Database administrators or developers often need to learn about Linux and other open-source operating systems while mastering Oracle databases. This is mainly because many large Oralce databases run on Linux and other operating systems. It is often not enough to understand Oracle databases. Simply put, installing Oralce database software on a Linux system is more difficult than installing it on Microsoft's operating system. You must configure environment variables and system kernel parameters. Therefore, Oralce database management experts are more valuable than other database administrators.
Third, in terms of database optimization, Oracle databases are complex, but the optimization results are better. Database optimization is an important task for database developers and administrators. After the database is optimized, the execution efficiency of the database and application software will be improved. The more complex the database design, the more obvious the improvement effect. Compared with other databases, the Oralce database provides relatively complex optimization content. For example, you can reasonably plan the table space and storage files to improve the input and output efficiency. For example, Oralce database provides a large table management model for large tables; oracle Database also provides some database optimization suggestions in terms of constraints, data types, and query optimization. We can see that the Oralce database is more complex than other databases in terms of database optimization. Therefore, database administrators have high requirements.
