Differences between Oracle ERP item catalog and item category

Item has two things that have plagued me for a long time when I started learning ERP. Catalog and category. I think it will be difficult for later users.

Catalog:

Material attributes, such as material weight, length, color, and capacity. It refers to the attributes of materials. For example, a person has height, weight, and gender. The main purpose is to avoid less attribute setting when adding materials.

Category:

Material classification. Such as semi-finished products, finished products, raw materials, CPU, and resistance. Mainly for classification. The classification of materials mainly depends on the specific requirements, that is, the specific company. From that perspective, we want to classify the materials in our company. For example, you can divide the color into red and black materials. It seems that it has something to do with catalog.

Take another example. For example, the census survey includes the following fields: name, height, weight, gender, age, education, home address, marital status, etc. These are catalog and everyone needs to fill in these messages. When information is collected, a report can be sent to Xi Zong. There are 0.8 billion men and 0.6 billion women in China, 0.2 billion elderly people, 0.6 billion children, and 0.6 billion young adults. This man and woman is category, which is classified by gender. Children, the elderly, and young adults are also category, which are classified by age. The numbers are written by me. There are not so many bachelors in China.

In Oracle ERP, catalog must first define some catalog, and then define some groups for these catalog. When creating a material, You must select the group. This material has a corresponding catalog.
