Hsrp vrrp is required for general network engineering and is usually used between two core switches.

● HSRP allows multiple routers to share a virtual IP address and a MAC address, so that if one of the routers fails, the end user will not notice it. Key features of HSRP are as follows:
1) activate the virtual IP address and virtual MAC address on the master Router
2) The Standby Router listens to the Hello message sent from the activated router.
3) the router is activated based on the highest priority and cannot be preemptible by default.
4) Tracking is supported. When the tracing object fails, the priority of the router decreases accordingly.
5) an interface can have a maximum of 255 HSRP groups and supports management-level load balancing.
6) Format of the virtual MAC address: 0000.0C07.ACxx (xx indicates the hexadecimal representation of the HSRP Group)
7) the virtual IP address must be in the same subnet as the vro port.
8) supports plaintext and MD5 authentication (through the key chain)
Because HSRP uses only one active router at a time, and other routers are idle. To provide load balancing, MHSRP (multiple HSRP) is introduced ). In MHSRP, two or more HSRP groups are configured on the LAN interface of each HSRP. The configuration priority determines which vro is activated for which HSRP group.

● VRRP (RFC 3768 ):

1) VRRP uses Multicast Virtual MAC addresses (2.16.5e00.01xx) (xx is the hexadecimal representation of VRRP group numbers)
2) VRRP uses the IOS object tracing feature instead of the internal tracing mechanism to track the interface status.
3) VRRP Master and HSRP Active are synonymous
4) In VRRP, the IP address of the VRRP group is the interface IP address of a VRRP router.

GLBP is the updated Cisco private protocol, which includes the Server Load balancer feature and gateway redundancy feature.
. Although the host still points to a default gateway, GLBP allows different hosts to send traffic to one of the four vrouters in the glbp group. Therefore, each vro in the glbp dynamic virtual gateway (AVG) allocation group has a unique virtual MAC address in the format of 0007. b400.xxyy (here xx is the GLBP group number, and yy is the different number of each vro (, 02, 0 or 04 )). When the client ARP uses its default gateway, glbp avg responds to one of the four virtual MAC addresses, thus implementing load balancing.

Cisco supports up to 1024 GLBP groups for each physical connection, and each group supports up to 4 hosts.
