Differences between liquid crystal and plasma

Plasma TVs (PDP) and LCD are both flat-panel TVs. They are like twins. Although they are very similar on the surface, they are essentially quite different. The biggest difference between the two lies in the use of different panels, that is, their imaging principles are very different. Plasma TVs rely on high voltage to activate the special gas in the imaging unit, so that it produces ultraviolet rays to stimulate the luminescence of phosphor. The LCD TV uses current to change the crystal structure in the thin film transistor on the LCD panel, so that it can be visualized. In addition, plasma TVs and LCD TVs have their own characteristics. For example, plasma TVs are cheaper than LCD TVs in the same size, while LCD TVs have advantages in power-saving performance and display resolution.

Definition

Enterprises that produce LCD TVs often claim high definition plasma tvs, and claim that plasma tvs currently claim a maximum physical resolution of 1024x1024, almost all LCD TVs have a high resolution of 1024x768, and the highest resolution is 1920x1080. In fact, most of the plasma TVs sold in the market have only 852x480 physical resolution, and only a few plasma TVs have 1024x768 physical resolution.

However, the definition of a flat-panel TV is not only the physical resolution of the screen, but also the quality of HD signal processing by the circuit directly affects the definition. It is not sufficient to judge from the physical resolution of the screen. Therefore, it is not scientific for LCD TV manufacturers to attack plasma tvs simply from the physical resolution of screens.

View Angle

No matter how the LCD TV defended, plasma TV is better than LCD TV in terms of angle of view. Of course, plasma TV is not "no Angle of View ". For the TV sets used in the living room and bedroom, few people will watch the TV at an angle of over 120 degrees, so from this perspective, there is no need for both sides to attack the angle of view.

Response Speed

The response speed was once a weakness of LCD TVs. Although it has been greatly improved in technology recently, it is sometimes used by enterprises that produce plasma TVs as the target of LCD TVs. Some companies claim that their LCD TV response time has been reduced to 8 ms, but in fact, most of the LCD TV Response Time on the market is about 12 ms. Even if the response time has been declared to be reduced to 8 ms LCD TVs, there is still a drag-and-Seek phenomenon when playing fast motion images, because the 8-millisecond response time claimed by the enterprise is calculated when the static image is played.

For a fast-moving black or white image, LCD TVs have slight tails, but this does not mean that plasma TVs are perfect in this regard. For fast-moving white objects, plasma TV also has a mild tail drag phenomenon, but when the fast moving object is changed to black, there will be no more tail drag phenomenon.

About burns

Plasma TVs are superior to LCD TVs in processing motion images, but they may burn when static images appear at the same position on the plasma screen for a long time. When the plasma TV burns and the camera is switched on, the screen displays the image that has been played for a long time, as if it were printed on the screen, this has become the target of some LCD TV manufacturers attacking plasma TVs.

About contrast

If we look at the contrast numbers in plasma TV and LCD TV, LCD TV is far inferior to plasma TV, but it cannot be said that plasma TV is better than LCD TV. This is because plasma TV and LCD TV use different contrast calculation methods, and even each company uses different calculation methods. Of course, the data they mark on their own products will be very different. Most plasma tvs use the full white black calculation method. The contrast is usually high. Some companies claim that the contrast is as high as 8000: 1. According to the US National Standard ANSI, the contrast between plasma TV and LCD TV is mostly around 200: 1 or 300: 1, this method is used to compare the black and white colors displayed on the same image.

About simulation and numbers

Plasma TV manufacturers attack LCD TV display images are simulated, while plasma TV is fully digital. However, in terms of image quality, simulated images make people feel smooth, while digital images make people feel jumping.

Different regions

Sales volume and sales volume

In more than 40 inch of the market, plasma TV has obvious advantages. Although Sharp has produced 45 inch LCD TVs and started to go public, it is not subject to the restrictions of large-scale production of high-generation LCD panels, LCD TVs cannot be larger than plasma TVs. In the market below 30 inch, LCD TVs also have an absolute advantage over plasma TVs. However, at present, there are no plasma tvs smaller than 40 inch in the Chinese market.
