Disable and enable user accounts under Linux

Sometimes a user is not good, but do not want to delete his account just want to give him some color to see, or for some kind of authority management do not want him/her to use this account, then frozen account is the best method, Linux account password is saved in the/etc/shadow file, The way to disable accounts is to modify/etc/shadow.

There is a simpler and quicker way to do this: by Passwd-l | -U to lock or unlock an account.

Deactivate your account:

[Email protected] vsftpd]# passwd-l Jerry
Locking password for user Jerry.
Passwd:success

Enable Account:

[Email protected] vsftpd]# passwd-u Jerry
Unlocking password for user Jerry.
Passwd:success.
