Disable Amazon and remote Content Retrieval for Ubuntu13.10

Ubuntu13.10 has been released for some time. It is time to sit down and configure the system to meet your requirements. Ubuntu13.10 is equipped with a lot of things that you don't actually need when installing or upgrading. For example, when you install or upgrade to Ubuntu13.10, Amazon and some other commercial shopping websites are automatically enabled. These Lens will be displayed when you open UnityDash. For example, when you install or upgrade to Ubuntu 13.10, Amazon and some other commercial shopping websites are automatically enabled. These Lens will be displayed when you open Unity Dash. When you perform a search at Dash, options similar to Amazon's remote data source that match your search content will also be sent.

These new features provided by Canonical may be useful to some people, but they may not be required by other users.

Because obtaining content from a remote data source requires bandwidth, this may have a negative impact on your Internet Bill, especially when you live in a region charged by traffic.

For other users who are worried about security and privacy, it may not be a good idea to automatically search for remote sources locally. Some users just don't want commercial companies to display their products when they search locally.

This simple tutorial teaches you how to quickly disable Amazon and obtain all remote content when using Ubuntu 13.10.

Press Ctrl-Alt-T on your keyboard to display the terminal. When it is enabled, run the following command to disable the function.

Gsettings set com. canonical. Unity. Lenses remote-content-search 'none'

If you want to enable it again, run the following command.

Gsettings set com. canonical. Unity. Lenses remote-content-search 'all'

You need to log in again or restart your computer to make the change take effect. After these operations are completed, no remote source will be used when you search for Ubuntu.
