Windows system resources are directly related to the overall operating speed of the system. As more software is installed, many software automatically loads some services when the system starts, occupying system resources, these services are mostly idle. Windows systems also have such services. Normally, most users do not use them. If you can stop these services, you can release the system resources occupied by these services, it is very helpful for improving the overall running speed of the system. Let's start.

Click "start" and "run". In the text box, type services. msc. A service window is displayed on the desktop, listing all the service projects currently running on the system. You will notice that the "Startup Type" of most services is set to "automatic", indicating that they all run automatically in the background. The 15 services listed in the following table are unnecessary, and you can safely set them to run manually-if you are bold enough, right-click them, select "stop" in the shortcut menu to stop these services. Then, select "properties" and set the "Startup Type:" for each service as needed :". Even if you find that the system is faulty due to modification of service settings in the future, it does not matter. Restart the relevant services and set their Startup type to "automatic.

Alarm (Alerter)

If you do not need to monitor network servers (like the Messenger Service), generally, home computers do not need to send or receive alerts from computer system management.

Purpose: notify the selected user and Computer System Management alert. If you stop this service, programs that use system management alerts will not receive notifications, and all services that depend on it will not start.

Automatic update)

If you disable this service, you can manually Update the operating system from the Windows Update Website.

Purpose: Enable download and installation of important Windows updates. Allow Windows to automatically check and download the update patch from Microsoft Servers in the background when it comes online automatically.

Computer Browser)

Generally, you do not need a home computer unless your computer is connected to a LAN.

Purpose: Maintain the updated computer list on the network and provide it to the computer used as a browser. If you stop this service, the list will not be updated or maintained, and all services that depend on it will not start.

Distributed Link tracing Client)

Computers with independent jobs, or computers connected to small-sized home networks, are not required.

Purpose: maintain connections between NTFS files on different computers or networks/domains.

Application Error Reporting Service)

If you get tired of sending error reports every time a program fails, and you don't expect to receive a reply from Microsoft, you can stop this service.

Purpose: Reports errors of services and applications executed in non-standard environments.

Help and Support)

If you do not use it, close it. In case you need to use the help file, it will automatically switch back to the "Automatic" Startup type setting. Purpose: Enable the instruction and support center to run on this computer. If the service is stopped, the description and support center will not be available, and all its dependent services will not be able to start.

IP Security Services)

If your computer is not in a virtual private network or security domain, you generally do not need this service.

Role: Manages IP Security Principles and starts ISAKMP/Oakley (IKE) and IP Security drivers to help protect data transmitted over the network.

Portable Media Serial Number (Portable Media Serial Number)

If your computer does not have any portable media player, you do not need it.

Purpose: Obtain the serial number of the media player in the system to control the copying of pirated music files to a portable player, such as MP3 and MD.

Remote Registry Service)

For security reasons, we recommend that you disable it if you do not have special requirements. Moreover, this service is only available for Windows XP Pro.

Purpose: enable remote users to modify Logon Settings on this computer. If this service is stopped, login can only be modified by the user on this computer. Any service that explicitly depends on it cannot be started.

Second-level Logon (Secondary Logon)

For security reasons, we recommend that you set the Service Startup type to "Manual.

Purpose: on computers used by multiple users, some users cannot execute some programs because they are not administrators. To allow logged-on users who do not have the Administrator permission to use this program, WindowsXP designed this function to assign temporary administrator permissions.

Server)

Disable this service if you do not want to share files or printers with other networked computers.

Purpose: share archives, prints, and named pipelines with this computer over the network.

TCP/IP NetBIOS Helper Program (TCP/IP NetBIOS Helper Service)

If your computer is not connected to the Internet or is not in the same network as the computer system running Windows 9x, you do not need this service.

Purpose: Enable the [NetBIOS over TCP/IP (NetBT)] service and support for NetBIOS name resolution.

Themes)

If you prefer to use the traditional Windows desktop background, disabling this service can save 4 ~ 12 Mb resource space.

Purpose: provide users with experience in topic management.

WebClient

For security reasons, you can try to disable it-if other Microsoft products or services cannot be started, you can restart it.

Purpose: Enable Windows-based programs to create, access, and modify Internet-based files.

Wireless Zero Configuration Management)

If your computer is not connected to any wireless network adapter or is not in a wireless network, you do not need to use this service.

Purpose: provide automatic settings for the 802.11 adapter and automatically configure the wireless network device.
