Do not be a victim of common usability negligence)

When I read Jakob Nielsen's recent article "Ten Most violated homepage design guidelines (Guidelines for ten unreasonable webpage designs )", i'm surprised that these include a list of basic, common-sense available methods, and the author's availability perspective. (Although I am not fascinated by his set of guidelines on Web availability, his research is fruitful and his article is instructive .)

According to the Jakob Nielsen survey, only about 1/3 of Web sites follow these basic availability specifications. However, his investigation mainly tends to be based on a large site with powerful funds for usability testing. Therefore, in the reality of a small site, this data may become smaller.

I am not switching to repeat his list of unreasonable specifications, but I want to point out some obvious usability negligence that you can easily correct.

Add a simple site description in the window title

Web visitors may not pay much attention to the webpage title displayed in the Web browser title bar. However, in the search engine order and search result display, the webpage title outlines the purpose of the website. Therefore, a meaningful web page title containing information on each page is a necessary part of any search engine optimization program. If a web visitor is dependent on a search engine, the web page title will become the most basic availability tool. Adding a title to the Web browser title bar and the taskbar is a good option.

Use color to distinguish between accessed and unaccessed links

The Web text hyperlink allows you to change the color to display a link that a visitor has accessed. This color change will be a feature that helps visitors locate their access locations and processes.

Now, Web developers are gradually using CSS to redefine the default link color, and they seldom follow the rules of using independent colors that have been accessed and have not been accessed. Correcting this simple negligence can provide visitors with an image of Web Page review.

The transparent layout allows users to adjust the homepage size

Designers generally want to control the relationship between different graphic windows on a page. The easiest way to achieve this idea is to use a fixed layout. The size of the Web browser window is not fixed. No matter which fixed layout size is selected, many websites can view the webpage through a browser window that does not match the webpage size. Some users can also browse the entire webpage content in a small window through the scroll bar.

Transparent pages can be expanded, shrunk, and reset to meet the entire form-changing the browser form size is the best way to transfer a Web page that can meet the visitor's browser window. Well-designed transparent la s are challenging, but the results are often worthwhile. A good transparent layout not only gives your site more availability, but also gives the site a more beautiful appearance.

Do not add an activity link to the Home Page

You may think that adding an activity link to the home page (home page on the home page) has no harm, or even a set of navigation links for all pages of the site with compatibility, however, if visitors want to know their location on the site, this activity link will lead to a messy result. For example, the link on the home page will make visitors think that they are not currently in the home page, but clicking this link will not allow them to enter a new location ., They do not know whether they are on the home page or whether they cannot reach the page because the link is damaged.

If you are using a navigation button toolbar, you can easily fix this issue by setting the button to a "down" or "clicked" shape on the current page. By providing visitors with a visual display of the current page location, this method actually improves the availability of the site. For plain text links, it is easier to move the links to the current page.

These common availability methods are easy to ignore, and in most cases they are too easy to execute, so you have no reason not to follow these simple methods to improve site availability.
