Server maintenance knowledge 1. boot sequence
Generally, the system should strictly follow the steps below:
Turn on the total power supply.
Power on the computer Cabinet
Power on external devices (such as disk arrays and tape libraries)
After the external device self-check is complete, the host is powered on.
Server maintenance knowledge 2. shutdown sequence
Shut down the Operating System (shutdown-h-y 0)
Power off the host.
Turn Off peripheral power (such as disk arrays and tape libraries)
Power off other devices and cabinets;
Close the total power supply.
Server maintenance knowledge 3. Cable Connection considerations
During cable connection (plugging), the most important thing is that the device connected (or to be connected) through this cable should not be powered on, that is, the power supply of the device should be switched off before the cable connection (plugging) operation. Otherwise, if a cable is connected with a live connection, unexpected damage to the device may occur.
Server maintenance knowledge 4. Hardware Fault Diagnosis
This section describes how to handle common faults.
Cable Connection
Note that connections between computers and peripherals are in good contact. Do not unplug the cables without reason. If a computer cannot identify a device, it may be caused by cable contact problems.
Hardware Status Indicator
If the system is abnormal, you can observe the hardware status indicator.
After the boot, the system automatically completes the self-test, diagnosis, and boot code. The detection sequence is roughly as follows: high-speed cache, central processor, bus, memory, and I/O devices. When the relevant hardware is detected, the corresponding display light is on.
When performing self-check on hard disks, floppy disks, tape drives, and disc drives, you can see the light on the front panel, indicating that the system has recognized the above device. On the contrary, if the self-check light of a drive is not on, it is likely that the device is faulty.
In addition, the self-check indicators on the SCSI interface card and network interface card on the host are normal. Otherwise, the interface card may be faulty. If you find this problem, please contact HP immediately to consider replacing the spare parts.
Error Code
After each boot, the system will perform hardware self-check and initialization. If the system encounters a hardware fault, it generally cannot start normally, the error code and error information are displayed on the LCD screen and console.
If an ERROR occurs on the screen and FLT appears on the LCD, it indicates that a fault has occurred and the fault point should be determined according to the above prompt.
Most hardware errors can be exposed during self-check. There are four error codes in the LCD display and the lower left corner of the console: FLT xxxx.
The four codes can further detect faults. If this problem is found, contact HP immediately to analyze the cause of the fault.
