1. Interface function:
The operation instruction mainly is to introduce the function of each menu item of the interface. So first of all to familiarize yourself with the appearance of the WinDiff, no matter which one you use, open the following interface as shown in the picture:
File menu:
Compare files (file comparison)
After clicking on this item, the mouse displays a dialog box that is similar to the standard File Open dialog box. You can select a file to participate in the comparison in this dialog box. You can automatically open them after all the selections are complete, and then start the comparison automatically.
Compare directories (catalog comparison)
This is also a dialog box that allows you to select two directories or folders, specify a path for the next comparison, use an absolute path or a relative path to the current folder, and if there are subdirectories, you can use the Include subdirectories (including subdirectories) option. You can also use the name of a subdirectory.
Abort (Abnormal abort)
Click on this item, you can, when necessary, to the completion of the comparison operation to abort.
Save File List
This allows you to keep the results of the comparison in a file in outline mode. The so-called outline mode, refers to the comparison of the results of the display, there are two, outline mode and expansion mode: Outline mode is abbreviated, each result occupies one row, the expansion mode is very detailed, showing a lot of items. Later in the example will be described in detail. In the process of comparing files, each file is validated and the result is recorded. These results are saved in the file.
Copy files (copy file)
Use a dialog box to display a list of files that need to be written to the current disk, the main purpose of which is: when necessary, you can attempt to synchronize two directories that participate in the comparison.
Print (printing)
Print the results of a file comparison: You can select outline mode or expand mode to print.
Edit menu (Editing menus)
In the Edit menu, the main item is the same as the regular Edit menu, but the following items are not in the regular menu:
Edit left File
Edit Right File
Edit Composite File
These commands allow the editor to invoke a text editor from WinDiff. You can edit the synthesis of either or both of the two files involved in the comparison. The two files that are involved in the comparison, in the first place, are customarily called Left (hand) files, and another custom called Right (hand) file.
Set Editor (Settings Editor)
This allows you to set the editor you selected. and the settings for some items in the editor, the WinDiff default state is Notepad as the editor. The following are the characters for some project settings:
%p
The path used to represent the edit.
%l
The default state is used to represent line numbers.
Notepad%p
If you want to use Notepad smoothly, you also need to set: s%p-#%l
Open program: According to the method described above, if you make a comparison between two files, you can click Compare Files in the File menu. In the Select First File dialog box, specify the first file to participate in the comparison. Then select a comparison file in the Select Second Files dialog box.
Expand menu (Extended (show) menus)
Left File
Only the left file is displayed.
Right File
Only the right file is displayed.
Both Files (default)
The comparison of two files is synthesized in one file, but the information that the two files belong to is distinguished by red and yellow. The right and left of the file who use what color, you will immediately understand the operation.
Left line Numbers (default)
The line number is displayed in the comparison result with the left file.
Right line Numbers
The line number is displayed in the right file as the result of the quasi comparison.
No Line Numbers
The line number is not displayed.
View menu (watch menus)
Outline
Sets the display of the comparison results to outline mode. This pattern shows a relatively simple result.
Expand
Sets the display of the comparison results to extended mode. The results shown in this pattern are detailed.
Picture
Analog picture display. In extended mode, displays the position of the current content graphically.
Previous Change
Jumps to the previous comparison point of the file, based on its current position (the difference between the two comparisons).
Next Change
Jumps to the next comparison point of the file, based on the current position.
Options menu (option menus)
Ignore Blanks:
Ignores whitespace. Whitespace is the part that is ignored in extended mode. These are the intervals that appear.
The following four options control the display of files in outline mode:
Show identical Files
Displays the same files that are contained in each path.
Show Left-only Files
Displays only the files contained in the path to the left (hand) file.
Show Right-only Files
Displays only the files contained in the right (hand) file path.
Show different Files
Displays the parts of a file that are not the same in two paths.
Outline mode display (shown in outline mode)
In outline mode, the results list each row in the order of the first letter of the file name, but do not include files that are contained in the subdirectory.
