Don't blind the eyes of quantitative management

Since CMM came to China, quantitative management of software enterprises has always made our EPG and process management personnel regarded as the sword of software management. In fact, after many times of practice, discovering things is not as simple as we think.

The first is a requirement (production requirements and management requirements). Do enterprises need such data? Why do we need this data? Before quantification, we must understand that we cannot follow the various indicators written in textbooks or the various seemingly dazzling quantitative data provided to you by consulting companies. Otherwise, it will be stuck in the quagmire of data, always seeing trees not see the forest;
In addition, sometimes the bosses say that the data they need is not what you understand. The management requirements are the same as the requirements for developing software to obtain users. It is easy to have a wrong understanding, it is easy to ignore implicit and potential needs, and these hidden and potential needs are often the most important and end-to-end user ideas.

Second, it is a kind of capability. It doesn't mean that any enterprise or the enterprise is in any stage of development needs to develop a perfect quantitative management system, and its ability cannot be reached. Quantification must be like a castle in the air, of course, it is difficult to meet the requirements. Quantification requires the production process to reach basic specifications and maturity. If the production process itself is not mature, and the reverse is to implement high maturity quantitative management, the problem is very obvious. Therefore, from this perspective, the restrictions on the progress of each maturity level of CMMs provided by SEI are justified. If the limit does not reach this level, I am desperate to drag myself up, it will make a joke.

Third, I think that this is also related to habits and culture. Chinese people have never believed in the accuracy of numbers. Now quantitative management is coming. To let numbers speak, it cannot be changed so quickly.
