Dota 2 Forum intrusion, 2 million user accounts leaked
The official forum of popular online games Dota 2 was intruded by hackers last month by exploiting vulnerabilities in the forum software. Accounts of approximately 2 million users were leaked. The intrusion occurred in July 10. The leaked copy of the Forum database was provided to LeakedSource.com, allowing users to enter the user name and email to search for theft. Hackers exploited the SQL injection vulnerability of vBulletin, an old version of forum software, to steal database user data, including user names, email addresses, related IP addresses, and MD5 and salt hashing passwords. The MD5 algorithm is widely considered to be no longer secure. According to LeakedSource's statistics on leaked data, more than half of users use Gmail mail, followed by Hotmail, Yahoo Mail, and Sina, 163, and QQ mail.
