$bar =& $foo;
$bar = "My name is $bar";
echo $bar. '

That's the difference between assignment and reference.
$foo = ' Bob ';
$bar =& $foo; $bar and $foo point to the same variable table entry
So any change to the $bar will cause $foo change (except for the deletion)
