In the process of creating a Web site, many pages use the same layout, pictures, and text elements for a unified style. In order to avoid a lot of duplication of work, you can use the template function provided by Dreamweaver8, the page with the same layout structure as a template, the same elements (such as navigation bar) made as a library item, and stored in the library can be called at any time.
First, create a template
There are three different ways to create a template.
1. Create templates directly
Select the window/resource command to open the resources panel and switch to the template subpanel as shown in the following illustration.
Click the expand button on the template panel and select New Template in the pop-up menu this is an unnamed template file that appears in the Browse window, naming the template.
Then click the Edit button to open the template for editing.
When the edit is complete, save the template and complete the template creation.
2. Save the normal Web page as a template
Open a Web page that has been made, delete unwanted parts of the page, and keep a few areas that are common to your pages.
Select the file/Save as Template command to save the Web page as a template.
In the Save Template dialog box that pops up, the site Drop-down list box is used to set the site for the template save, and the class selects an option. The existing Templates marquee displays all the templates for the current site. The Save As text box is used to set the name of the template. Click the Save button in the Save Template dialog box to convert the current page to a template and save the template to the selected site.
Click the Save button to save the template. The system will automatically create the template folder under the root directory and save the template file you created in that folder.
When you save a template, the system displays a warning message if no editable regions are defined in the template. We can click OK First and then define the editable region later.
3. Create a new template from the File menu
Select the file/new command, open the New Document dialog box, and then select Template page in the category and select the relevant template type, and click the Create button directly.
