Some peripherals on the small machine, such as the host machine and the optical drive, are rarely used at ordinary times, so most of them are shared among the LPAR of a small machine. These IO devices can only be exclusively occupied by one LPAR when used between different LPAR, so they must be switched when necessary.
The customer's p6 570 server has four lpars, and two of them need to be backed up using tapes. Therefore, the dynamic switching of the tape drive between the two lpars is involved. The idea is as follows: first use smit mksysb to select rmt0 for backup on an LPAR, which takes about two or three hours; after the backup is complete, delete the device of the tape drive on the aix of the lpar just backed up, and then switch the tape drive to another partition in the HMC, in the AIX of another LPAR, use systmgr to scan the device to obtain the rmt0 device, and then back up the device.
Run lsdev-Cc tape on the two LPAR to check whether there are any tape drive devices with rmt0, and back up the LPAR with rmt0: smit mksysb and select rmt0. After the backup, delete the device of the tape drive on the LPAR. Lsdev-Cl rmt0-F parent. Run this command to view the parent Device of rmt0. The result is sas1. continue to view the parent Device of sas1, lsdev-Cl sas1-F parent can see sissas1, and then continue to use similar commands. The parent Device of sissas1 is pci11. When deleting a tape drive, you must first find the pci device number, that is, the above pci11, because deleting the device must delete the entire pci link connected to the tape drive.

Then allocate the tape drive to another LPAR on the HMC. Here we use HMC7 as an example. Click Servers on the left and select the machine 9117, that is, p6 570. Select one of the four LPAR on the right, click the arrow next to the LPAR name, select Dynamic Logical Partitioning, select Physical Adapters, and then select Move or Remove.
In the displayed dialog box, if there is a device under the Removable I/O Adapters, it means that the tape drive is allocated to the selected LPAR. If not, you need to turn it off, select another LPAR to check whether there is a device until the LPAR of the device is found. Select the device under Removable I/O Adapters, select the target LPAR in the Move to partition under Options, and click OK to confirm. After the HMC prompts that the request is successful, this completes the dynamic migration of the tape drive.
Now we can scan for new devices on another LPAR, and run the cmdmgr or cmdmgr-v command to scan for new devices. About two or three minutes later, after the prompt is successful, run lsdev to check the tape device. If rmt0 is found, the drive has been switched to the LPAR partition.
