1. Windows > PreferencesThen type keys or browse to the General > Keys . The filter text block selection Quick Find shortcut is listed according to the key entered toggle block selection . Here, you can select the shortcut column as you wish.

2. You can enable and disable column editing mode with keyboard shortcuts ALT-SHIFT-A . Once enabled you can select a block of text, or SHIFT (like a normal keyboard selection, except that the selection will now be in a block). If you change the default font for text editing, the screen font that goes into column edit mode may change to the default column edit font (which may be different to your font. To change the font, in the column editing mode, go and select Window -> Preferences , then in the left tree, pick General -> Appearance -> Colors and Fonts , and then pick the Basic -> Text Editor Block Selection Font tree on the right hand side. You can then select the font to match your "no column edit mode" font.
