Edit Fireworks files in Dreamweaver

Fireworks recognizes and retains most of the types of edits made to documents in Dreamweaver, including changed links, edited image maps, edited text and HTML in HTML slices, and behaviors that are shared between fireworks and Dreamweaver. The property panel in Dreamweaver helps you identify the images, table slices, and tables that fireworks generate in your document. Here's a look at the table and the image edit separately.

　　1. Edit Fireworks Form

When you start and edit an image slice that is contained in a fireworks table placed in Dreamweaver, Dreamweaver automatically starts the PNG source file for the entire table.

Let's take a look at the specific steps:

First step: Click inside the table, and then click the Table tab in the status bar to select the entire table. The property panel automatically recognizes the selected area as a fireworks table and displays the name of the known PNG source file for that table in the Properties panel. Then, click the button in the Properties panel. In the example shown in Figure 19, we will conduct a detailed operational demo to simulate the process.

Step two: Make the required edits in fireworks. In this example we will change "about us" to "Company Introduction", we only need to double-click the "About Us" button to open the button editor to modify the text, as shown in Figure 20.

After you have modified it, click the Done button. The modified navigation bar is shown in Figure 21.

Step three: When you finish editing, click Done in the document window. The HTML and image slicing files for the table are exported using the current optimization settings, and the tables placed in Dreamweaver are updated, as shown in Figure 22, and the PNG source files are saved.

　　2. Edit Fireworks Images

Let's look at how to edit the fireworks image in Dreamweaver:

First step: Select the image you want to edit, and then click the button in the Properties panel. You will see the dialog box shown in Figure 23 asking if you want to locate the source Fireworks file for the placed image.

The dialog box has three Drop-down lists: ask when launching (query at startup), Always use source png (always using source png), and never use source png (never using source png), meaning the following:

* Ask when launching: asks each time whether to start the source PNG file. When you edit or optimize a placed image, fireworks displays a message that prompts the user to make a decision to start and edit.

* Always use Source PNG: Automatically launches a PNG file that is defined in the design description as the source of the placed image, while the source PNG and its corresponding placement images are updated.

* Never use Source PNG: The placed fireworks image is automatically started, regardless of whether the source PNG file exists, and only the placed images are updated.

Step Two: Click "Use a PNG" or "Using this file" to create the source PNG for the image or directly to the image file. When Fireworks MX 2004 is started, the image you want to edit is opened, as shown in Figure 24.

Step three: As shown in Figure 25, edit the image.

Finally, when you finish editing, and then click Finish in the document window, the image will be exported using the current optimization settings, and the GIF or JPEG file used by Dreamweaver will be updated, as shown in Figure 26.
