Everyone wants their computers to be faster, but for various reasons they often fail to do so, and even the computer crashes on startup. In fact, sometimes the slow startup speed of Windows is not a problem, but caused by some devices or software. Let's take a look at the eight reasons for the slow system startup, check whether your computer has similar problems!
1. USB hard drive, scanner, and other devices
If a computer is installed with a scanner or a USB hard disk is connected at startup, try to disconnect them first to see if the startup speed has changed. Generally, due to the slow speed of the USB interface, the corresponding device will have a significant impact on the startup speed of the computer. Try to connect the USB device after startup. If you do not have a USB device, we recommend that you disable the USB feature directly in the BIOS settings.
Tip: Windows will detect each drive (including the optical drive) during startup, so if the optical drive is placed in the disc, it will prolong the boot time of the computer.
2. Disturbing NICs
If you do not set the NIC properly, the NIC will significantly affect the system startup speed. If your computer does not need the NIC, unplug the NIC directly to avoid affecting the system startup speed.
If your computer is connected to the LAN and the NIC driver is installed, the system will automatically obtain the IP address through DHCP by default, but most companies' LAN does not have DHCP servers, therefore, if the user is set to "automatically obtain IP addresses", the system will constantly search for DHCP servers in the network at startup until the IP address is obtained or times out, which naturally affects the start time, therefore, it is best for LAN users to specify a fixed IP address for their computers.
3. file and printer sharing
Some computers installed with Windows XP Professional Edition may experience slow startup, even as many as 1 minute 40 seconds! The system seems to have crashed. After logging on to the system, the desktop does not appear. The computer just stops responding and can be used normally after 1 minute. This is because, after the bootvis.exe program is used, the Mrxsmb. dll file adds 67 seconds for the computer startup!
To solve this problem, just stop the shared folder and printer: Select Start → settings → network and dial-up connections, right-click local connection, and select Properties ", in the displayed window, cancel the check box before Microsoft network file and printer sharing under "Use the following selected components for this connection" and restart your computer.
4. Disconnect unused network drives
To eliminate or reduce the number of network connections that must be reestablished for Windows, we recommend that you disconnect unnecessary network drives, that is, access "my computer ", right-click the network drive that has been mapped and select "disconnected.
5. Too many hard disk partitions are also wrong
If you define too many partitions in Windows, it will also take a long time to start or even suspend. So it is best not to divide the hard disk into too many areas. Windows must load each partition at startup. As the number of partitions increases, the total time required to complete this operation will also increase.
6. Too many desktop icons will cause troubles
Too many icons on the desktop can reduce the system startup speed. Every Time Windows starts and displays the desktop, you need to find and load the Desktop shortcuts one by one. The more icons, the more time it takes. We recommend that you put unused desktop icons in a dedicated folder or simply delete them!
Tip: some anti-virus software provides the system startup scanning function, which takes a lot of time. In fact, if you have enabled the real-time monitoring function of anti-virus software, scanning the system at startup seems redundant. disable this function!
7. Too many fonts also hold back
Although Microsoft claims that Windows can install 1000 ~ 1500 fonts, but in fact we found that when there are more than 500 installed fonts, there will be problems, such: the font disappears from the font list of the application and the startup speed of Windows is greatly reduced. We recommend that you delete unused or infrequently used fonts. To avoid unexpected deletion, perform necessary backup first.
8. Microsoft launches "Internal Audit" on its own"
Remember the news that a patch of Windows XP causes system startup to slow down (for example, a patch code named Q328310 will slow Windows 2000/XP startup and shutdown, it may even cause the registry to be locked). It can be seen that Microsoft may have internal problems. If you suddenly find that the system starts slowly after upgrading a system patch, so it's best to pay attention to the patch.
