On Verycd, someone asked me how to enable VMware to support the installation of an OEM system. I searched for the relevant information and did not find this version. But I think the general idea is the same. The test is successful. The environment is Lenovo oem xp SP2 HOME, the client is Lenovo oem xp pro, and VMware Workstation V5.5.3 build000085.
To install the OEM version of the system is of course to change the BIOS, your machine did not dare to do it first to create a virtual machine to open the knife. VMware uses Phoenix BIOS. The BIOS modification tool is of course Phoenix BIOS Editor. Download it here.
First, use a binary editor to export the bios rom. We use UltraEdit most. Key! Find the field in the vmware-vmx.exe file under the Bin folder of the VMware installation folder (X: \ Program Files \ VMware Workstation \ bin.pdf) EA 66 E7 00 F0 00 00 00This is only one file. Then 524288 bytes are selected from the 00 (including 00) up, which can be seen in the UltraEdit status bar. Use the UltraEdit save selection function to save a file with the suffix ROM .!! Note: Do not release the selected one. It is a waste of time to drag it again, and it is easy to make mistakes later.

Then we use Phoenix BIOS Editor to open the ROM file and modify the BIOS. Click DMI Strings to modify the information in the window. It is mainly to change the corresponding OEM information in the "Motherboard Version" column, which can be changed to "MManufacturer Name" and "System Manufacturer Name ".

Below are some brand information:
LEGEND: add the "LEGEND Dragon" string anywhere in the BIOS. Be case sensitive.
Tsinghua tongfang: add the "tsinghua tongfang computer" string anywhere in the BIOS, Which is case insensitive.
TCL: add the "TCL123" string anywhere in the BIOS.
Qi Xi: add the "HEDYCOMPUTER" string anywhere in the BIOS.
COMPAQ: add the "COMPAQ" string to the BIOS.
HP: Add "Hewlett-Packard" to the BIOS ".
ACER: add the "AcerSystem" string anywhere in the BIOS. Note the case sensitivity.
IBM: add the "ibm corporation" string anywhere in the BIOS, case insensitive.
Founder: add the "Founder PC" string anywhere in the BIOS. Note the case sensitivity.

After the modification is complete, select "File> Build BIOS". The first prompt is displayed. Select "no" and select "2nd". Change the name to the correct one, overwrite the original one, and save and exit.

Return to the UltraEdit window. Didn't the selected content be closed and not released. Use the "Edit> cut" command to delete the selected part. Note that the starting point of the cursor cannot be changed. Run the "File> special function> insert file" command to insert the modified BIOS file, and save the disk and exit.
OK! Now we can install our OEM system. (Note the backup of each file before performing these operations)

I made a few, you can see if you have a brand.
