Tropos Networks has upgraded its Wi-Fi mesh network operating system to simplify the management of large outdoor Networks and support the simultaneous use of thousands of users.
These changes include: the new Code enables the Tropos nodes on the edge of the network to handle security, performance, and other issues locally. It supports the Border Gateway Protocol to enable the Tropos node to update the route table of the core network router; the new template allows the customer to configure network settings by answering a few questions or selecting some options.
Tropos recently released a new version of its Insight network management application. The new version includes a set of analytic programs to provide network service providers with better data about the network status. The new version also adds a protocol, it is used to collect more management information about the mesh network behavior, associate the management information with the data of other nodes, and provide the information to Insight.
Tropos is one of the first emerging vendors to provide outdoor wireless mesh network deployment. Today, competitors in this market include other emerging vendors such as BelAir and Firetide and IT giants such as Cisco and Nortel. Proxim Wireless recently launched an outdoor mesh network node that supports Wi-Fi and WiMAX.
