No trace (DNT) exception

Do not trace(DNT) Introduction

Always send the "do not track" title (DNT is the abbreviation of do not track header), which is the GPO setting added in ie11 and can be found in the following path:

Management template \ Windows Components \ Internet Explorer \ Internet Control Panel \ Advanced page

This policy allows you to configure how Internet Explorer sends non-tracking (DNT) headers.

If this policy setting is enabled, Internet Explorer sends DNT: 1 headers in all HTTP and HTTPS requests. DNT: 1 indicates that the server does not track users.

For Internet Explorer 9 and 10:

If you disable this policy, Internet Explorer only sends the "do not track" title when you enable the trace protection list or when using inprivate browsing mode.

Internet Explorer 11 and later versions:

If this policy setting is disabled, Internet Explorer only sends the "do not track" title when inprivate browsing mode is used.

If you do not configure this policy, you can select the always send do not track title option on the "advanced" tab of the "Internet Options" dialog box. By selecting this option, Internet Explorer will send DNT: 1 headers in all HTTP and HTTPS requests. Unless the User grants site-specific exceptions, Internet Explorer will send DNT: 0 header. This option is enabled by default.

We can view the DNT header sent by the HTTP request through the F12 network, as shown below:

The IT administrator can view the following registry paths.

Hkcu \ Software \ Microsoft \ Internet Explorer \ main \ donottrack

Value: 1 Enabled; 0 disabled

How to manageDNTExceptions

Ie11 is the first supportDNTThe exception browser.

The DNT exception feature added by the ie11 Browser allows the website to send request exception permissions to track user browsing behavior. If the user approves the request, ie will set the website as an exception.

The navigator object provides the following methods to manage DNT exceptions:

  • Confirmsitespecifictrackingexception indicates whether the website has been granted DNT exceptions
  • Storesitespecifictrackingexception requires that the website be saved to the DNT exception
  • Removesitespecifictrackingexception
