It has always been said that it is difficult for ERP project managers to cultivate and have always been a sought-after talent in the software industry, in both R & D and project implementation fields, A large number of project managers are required to control the project. There are also many people who say that the project manager is not only doing technical work, but more like doing an art job. I agree with this. Project management needs to focus on balancing, intuition, judgment, and experience. In order to ensure the final success of the project. From the perspective of balance, project management needs to be balanced as follows:
1. Self/no me. The project manager has invested a lot in the implementation of his project and devoted a lot of effort. This emotional connection is the source of his success in the project, you can also get a great sense of accomplishment from your work. But at the same time, the project manager must avoid putting his own interests before the project, and be willing to assign interesting or important tasks to win the honor together with the team members. Self-awareness can stimulate the project, but the project manager must also realize whether self-awareness will hinder the project.
2. dictatorship/delegation. In many cases, a project requires clear responsibilities and rapid response. The project manager should be confident and willing to take control of the team and execute specific actions. However, the overall goal should be to avoid these extreme situations. A well-managed project should establish an environment so that work can be delegated and work together effectively.
3. Endure ambiguity/pursue perfection. Any project is highly open and changed at the initial stage. Unknown things are more important than known things. The ambiguity of proper control is the key to the emergence of good ideas. Therefore, if the project manager does not control it, he must respect it. However, in other cases, especially in the later stages of the project, the discipline and spirit are indeed Supreme. It is necessary to have enough wisdom to determine when to spend time pursuing perfection, while adopting ordinary or emergency solutions.
4. Oral/written. Although most software project organizations communicate via email, oral skills are especially important to project management. Meeting, negotiation, discussion, and mind views are always required, and the project manager must be efficient in understanding and communicating ideas. The larger the organization or project, the more important the written skills are. Regardless of the personal preferences of the project manager, the project manager must recognize when to write or verbal communication is more effective.
5. admit complexity/simplicity of support. Many people will become victims of complexity. When they face complex work challenges, they will forget the big structure in the details. Others simply deny complexity and make bad decisions because they do not fully understand the details of the issues involved. The balanced approach here is to recognize which project viewpoint is most useful for solving problems or decisions in the hands, and at the same time freely switch between the two or keep them in mind. (High requirements ). The project manager must be convincing enough to allow the team to pursue their work simply, rather than heading for complexity.
6. Impatient/patient. Most of the time, the project manager is a pushing force to urge others to concentrate on their work. However, in some cases, impatience may be detrimental to the project. There are political, cross-organizational, or bureaucratic activities that are unavoidable as a time trap. It is necessary to be patient if someone needs to attend the meeting and is not helpful to the project. Therefore, it is necessary for the project manager to have specific judgment to know when to push the problem and take a step back to let something happen.
7. Courage/fear. The brave are not afraid of the excellent qualities of human beings. But this is often a lie. Brave people are those who are afraid but will still take action. The project manager must pay attention to all errors. Consider these things as completely possible, that is, the courage to face risks. Be afraid of risks, but be brave enough to face them.
8. Trust/doubt. I believe that I am the leader of the team and the biggest source of fighting spirit. It is important for the project manager to have confidence in what he has done, and to see the real value of the goal to be achieved. At the same time, you must be skeptical about the progress and practices of the incident. People must discuss and ask questions, uncover assumptions, and guide difficult problems. You need to be eager to ask questions and challenge others' assumptions, but do not believe in what the animal team is doing.
If you have written so much, the project manager is an art. Indeed, it is not easy to be a good project manager.
