Exchange 2003 Architecture Design Decisions

The successful deployment of Exchange 2003 by OTG requires a combination of many different elements. Not only are new Exchange server software required, but many other new technologies, such as servers from Third-party resources, storage hardware, and Microsoft Windows Server 2003 and Microsoft Office 2003 software, can be deployed by OTG To achieve the greatest advantage. Considerations for network design, including bandwidth requirements and SLA agreements for backup and recovery, have also been taken into account. The changes caused by the design decisions made have also brought about operational change to OTG.

Topological structure

OTG designed the Exchange 2003 department topology based on the Exchange 2000 topology on Windows Server. Active Directory is a key factor in the organizational structure and management requirements of Exchange 2000. OTG was able to use an existing Active Directory structure with the Exchange 2003 department.

When you started the initial Exchange 2003 deployment, OTG was deeply involved in deploying Windows Server 2003 in its global network infrastructure. This development is critical because Exchange 2000 does not run on Windows Server 2003, although Exchange 2003 can run on Windows SQL Server. Running Exchange 2003 on Windows Server 2003 offers many additional benefits to exchange, which we'll discuss in more detail later. These benefits enable OTG to begin planning to implement the number of servers in the consolidated global communications infrastructure, which facilitates the design of the Exchange 2003 topology.

Mobility Design and Configuration

Microsoft's definition of mobility has grown to include systems that are typically unrelated to mobile technology. Devices that use OTG's mobile infrastructure include not only Pocket PCs and Smartphone. Microsoft employees who use a laptop or Tablet pc running Outlook 2003 can use RPC over HTTP to access Microsoft Enterprise Exchange server using only one Internet connection. Any remote computer that has access to the Internet can serve as an OWA client for Microsoft employees. All of these technologies access Exchange 2003 through the same mobile infrastructure.
