Exchange 2007 Direct Push Mail features

Pushmail is hot in China, the most famous one is the BlackBerry, which was launched in the US and Canada as early as 2001. The BlackBerry is targeted at corporate users, who must first set up a dedicated mail server and BlackBerry Service software in order to send the company's e-mail and Outlook calendar data directly to the user's BlackBerry. Microsoft has recently launched the Direct Push Mail feature on Exchange 2007, which competes directly with the BlackBerry. To enjoy Microsoft's direct Push email service, the phone must be a smartphone on the Windows Mobile operating system.

First step: Set up Exchange 2007 ActiveSync policies

Exchange ActiveSync uses direct Push technology to synchronize e-mail messages, calendars, contacts, and task data with mobile devices. Exchange ActiveSync and Direct Push technology work by establishing two-way communication between mobile devices and Exchange servers, as shown in Figure 1. The device issues a persistent HTTPS request to the server. The server monitors mailboxes for the duration of the request. If a new item arrives in a mailbox or synchronized folder during a request, the server notifies the mobile device and requires the device to initiate synchronization. If the monitored folder is not modified while the HTTPS request continues, the request expires, and the mobile device generates a new request. This procedure keeps the device synchronized with the Microsoft Exchange mailbox.

1. Create a ActiveSync mailbox policy in Exchange 2007

Open the Exchange Management Console and navigate to the Organization settings (organization Configuration) client access to view any policy that is applied to your mobile device in your organization. Click the new Exchange ActiveSync mailbox policy connection to initiate a new Exchange ActiveSync Mailbox Policy Wizard.

2. Assign an Exchange 2007 ActiveSync mailbox policy to the user

Open the Exchange Management Console and navigate to the Receive configuration (recipient Configuration) on the tree of the console to view a list of all the users in your Exchange Server organization. Right-click the user on which you want to assign the policy, and select Properties. Go to the Mailbox Attributes tab. This tag is often used for the ability to use Exchange ActiveSync. Select Exchange ActiveSync from the list and click the Properties button, where you assign an Exchange ActiveSync mailbox policy for a user. Select the Apply an Exchange ActiveSync mailbox policy check box.

Step two: Set up the synchronization of mobile phone ActiveSync with Exchange sever.

First in the mobile phone ActiveSync, click "Menu" select "Configure Server". If you have not set up synchronization with Exchange Server, this command will appear as add source server. After opening, in server address, enter the name or IP address of the server that is running Exchange Sever, and then click Next. Select an SSL-mode connection (Exchange 2007 uses SSL encrypted channel by default). Enter your name, password, and domain.

Then, select the check box for the type of sync information option you want to exchange sever with. The Information option type should be the same; then click on the lower right corner of the new interface "menu" to choose "Schedule", the "peak period" and "off-peak hours" when the project arrives, the following two check boxes all tick, The synchronization settings are complete.

Step three: Remotely remove data operations from a mobile device through Exchange Server 2007

If a device is lost or stolen, the best way to protect your company's trade secrets and intellectual property is to remotely erase the data on the device.

By creating an Exchange ActiveSync mailbox policy, you gain the ability to tamper with mobile device data, but this is not a smart way to assume that a rogue is not interested in your data or that he has no ability to decipher the device's password. It is best to be able to remotely erase data on a device as soon as you receive lost or stolen information.

One of the compelling features of Exchange Server 2007 is that users do not even have to report information about the loss of mobile devices. In fact, the device is able to erase data automatically through Outlook Web Access:
