The offline Address Book in Exchange Server 2010 is also known as the OAB (Offline Address Book refers to a copy of the phone books that have been downloaded so that Outlook users can access the information they contain when they disconnect from the server.) Exchange administrators can choose which address books are available to users who work offline, and you can configure distribution methods for the address book, which can only be updated through public folders, and only Outlook 2003 and previous versions are supported. After the release of Exchange 2007, the OAB is based on the network distribution model design, web-based distribution is more efficient use of bandwidth, in the use of Outlook 2007 or Outlook2010 client, you can update the OAB through the Web. Public folder Publishing is supported for the retention of compatibility with Exchange2003.

New Offline Address Book

The normal use of an offline address book takes three steps: Create----on a mailbox server and publish-----client Outlook downloads on the client Access server. After the Exchange Server2010 installation is complete, a default offline address book is generated, which is typically used in this address book. However, you need to create a new offline address book in a general special environment, such as displaying only some of the user's address information. To create a new offline address book, open the Exchange Management Console on a mailbox server, organize configuration---mailbox, switch to the Offline Address Book tab, right-click New Offline Address Book, as shown in the following illustration:

Click to open the new offline Address book, and the Introduction dialog box appears as shown in the following illustration:

In this interface, enter the name of this offline address book, the build server is the destination mailbox server, and the address list used by this address book, where we use "include the following address List" and add the address list of the branch branch that we have created earlier. In that case, this machine address book includes only information for this branch office addresses list. If you select Include Default global Address list, it is identical to the default Offline address book.

Further down is the distribution point configuration Interface, which is designed to allow clients to download the offline address book. Two modes of distribution, select Enable Web distribution, add, select the appropriate virtual target name, and the CAS server name. If you have Outlook2003 clients in your organization, you also need to select Enable public folder distribution. Then follow the wizard and click "New" and "Finish" in turn.
