Experience Photoshop CS2 enhanced image processing capabilities

Photoshop CS2 has a number of enhancements in image processing capabilities, and we look at it carefully below.

　　 One, support 32-bit High dynamic region (HDR) Image

Although the innovations in photography have largely overcome technological limitations over the past 150 years, dynamic regions remain one of the technical limitations that have not been overcome for many years. Now, however, the presence of the "merge to HDR" (Merged to High dynamic area image) feature in Photoshop CS2 this limitation.

　　 about dynamic zones (Dynamics range)

The dynamic region refers to the range of the number of levels of the darkest and brightest shades of the image. In the visible world, this area is far beyond the human visual range, but also beyond the print or screen output of the image can be displayed. But the human eye can only observe markedly different levels of brightness, and most cameras and computer monitors can only capture and reproduce a specific range of dynamic regions. Photographers, filmmakers, and others who use digital images must choose what is most important in a scene, because they are faced with a limited dynamic region.

High dynamic area images open up a new world because they can represent the entire dynamic region of the visible world. A real-world scenario in which all lumen values are stored in an HDR image and are balanced, adjusting the exposure of an HDR image as if it were being photographed in the real world. This ability allows us to create blurry effects that look very real and their real-world lighting effects. At present, HDR images are widely used in movies, special effects, three-dimensional works, and some high-end photography.

　　 using HDR in Photoshop CS2

The following tools, adjustments, filters can be used in Photoshop CS2 to handle 32-bit HDR images.

· Adjustments (adjust): You can use the image "" image → "adjustments" (image → Adjustment) in the channel Mixer (channel mixer), Photo filter (Photo filter), exposure (exposure) command.
· Blend Modes (blending mode): Normal, Darken, Multiply, lighten, Linear Dodge, difference in mixed mode.
• Image editing commands: Include fill, stroke, free transform, transform, image size, canvas size, rotate canvas, cut and trim.
• File format: includes PSD, PSB, HDR, PFM, OpenEXR, TIFF.
• Filters: Includes average, Box Blur, Gaussian Blur, Motion Blur, radial Blur, Shape Blur, Surface Blur, Add noise, fibers, Lens Flare, Smart Sharpen, Unsharp Mask, De-interlace, NTSC Colors, High Pass, Offset.
• Color mode: RGB, grayscale, transform to 8-bit/channel or 16-bit/channel.
• Tools: Marquee tool, move tool, lasso tool, cut tool, slice tool, clone Stamp tool, History brush tool, path selection tool, direct selection tool, pen tool, annotation tool, eyedropper tool, color sampling tool, measurement tool, hand tool, zoom tool. Some tools are supported only in mixed mode.
　　
　　 Practice: Merging HDR images with merge to HDR

Write so much basic knowledge, is the paper, or to practice, to see how the use of HDR. Observe the following three pictures that you can store in a folder and prepare to do the following "merge to HDR" (merged into a high dynamic area image) exercise. First step: Start Photoshop CS2, select menu command "File" → "Automate" → "Merge to HDR".

Step two: In the Merge to HDR dialog box, click the Browse button, locate the three files you saved, select them all, and then the names of the three files appear in the dialog box, as shown in Figure 33. Click the OK button.
Step three: Set the exposure time for the first darkest picture in the Manually set EV dialog box as 1/125s, as shown in Figure 34. Click the right arrow to set the exposure time for the second to third picture to 1/15s and 1/2s respectively. Settings Complete Click the OK button.
Step fourth: In the next occurrence of the Merge to HDR dialog box, select the source picture you want to use again on the left. The source picture needs at least three. Note If you want to save the image as an HDR image, you must select Bits/channel in the Bit Depth list on the right. Click the OK button.

　　 what is RAW format?
In addition to being able to store images in JPEG, TIFF format, many digital cameras can also be stored in RAW format. In fact, Raw is not an image format, but the camera CCD or CMOS in the light signal conversion to electrical signals when the level of the original record, simply the digital camera does not carry out any processing of image data, that is, CCD and other photographic components directly obtained from the digital signal processing and obtained. For example, for a 3 million-megapixel digital camera, a raw file holds 3 million-point photosensitive data. And we usually use JPEG format shooting, is a digital camera on the raw format, in the digital camera to add white balance and saturation parameters, and then generate image data, compression processing.

Digital camera with raw data processing software can be converted into TIFF and other ordinary image data, the user can set any white balance, sharpness, contrast and other parameters, so that users can create their favorite images. Processing RAW format image data differs from processing JPEG images in that image data does not deteriorate.
　　 How do I get the raw format file?

You must have a camera in raw format to create a raw format file, and you need to set the camera to be stored in raw format before shooting. In Adobe Bridge and Photoshop, you can only handle the digital cameras they support, where you can view a list of supported cameras.

　　 How do I process raw format files using Photoshop or Bridge?

In Photoshop, you can open the raw file directly. In bridge, browse to the RAW format file you want to process, as shown in Figure 37, select one or more raw files, right-click on it, and choose "Open in Camera raw" (You can also use the menu "File" → "Open in Camera raw").
As shown in Figure 38, the RAW format file opens in the Camera raw window, where you can manually adjust each file, such as adjusting its exposure, contrast, hue, and so on.
You can also use the AutoFit feature, as shown in Figure 39, when you check auto on the right side of the "exposure" (exposure), the image is automatically adjusted for exposure.
The Shadows (shading), brightness (brightness), contrast (contrast) are also set to Automatic, and the resulting results are shown in Figure 40. 　　 third, lens correction filter

The new lens correction filter (Lens correction filter) corrects defects in the lens distortion of a common camera, such as barrel deformation, pillow distortion, halo shadow, and color aberration. The following example shows how to correct distortion of the lens distortion.

First step: Use Photoshop CS2 to open the photo you want to correct. You can save the following image to a location and then open it using Photoshop CS2.
Step Two: Select menu command "filter" → "distort" → "Lens correction" (filter → twist lens → correction), open the Lens Correction dialog box.

Step three: Make adjustments as needed. Here, set the Remove distortion value to 28 to see the preview changes, as shown in Figure 41. Grids can help us observe the effect of correcting distortion.
Step Fourth: At the bottom right of the "edge" Drop-down list in the right to select "Edge Extension" (Edge extension), and adjust the extended value below 118, as shown in Figure 42, so that the edge of the image to expand to the appropriate size.
With this operation, a distorted picture is basically corrected. There are a number of options in the dialog box above where readers can try their role again.

　　 Four, image denoising filter

The image noise is displayed as a random alien pixel in the non image itself, usually due to the high ISO value of the digital camera, insufficient exposure or shooting at a lower shutter speed in a darker place. Low-end consumer cameras tend to produce more noise than high-end cameras. In addition, the image scanned into the computer will also appear many similar to the film particles noise.

Noise usually occurs in two forms: luminance noise and color noise. The new noise reduction filter helps remove the noise generated by JPEG image compression.

　　 using image noise reduction filters

The first step: Use Photoshop CS2 to open the picture you want to reduce noise.

Step Two: Select menu command "filter" → "Noise" → "Reduce Noise" (filter → miscellaneous point → remove noise) and open the dialog box shown in Figure 43.
Step three: Adjust the values of each item as needed in the dialog box, below is the role of each.

· Strength: The intensity of noise reduction. Controls the brightness noise value applied to all channels of the image.
· Preserve Details: Protect the details. Protects edge and image details such as hair, textured objects, etc. When the value is 100, the details can be protected to the maximum extent, but this can only minimize the brightness noise reduction. Try to find a proper balance between the two.
· Reduce Color Noise: Reduce the color noise. Can remove the randomly generated color noise, the higher the number, the more noise reduction.
· Sharpen Details: Sharpening the details. Reducing the noise can also reduce the sharpness of the image. This can be used to sharpen the details and, of course, to use specialized sharpening filters.
· Remove JPEG Artifacts: Select this to remove artifacts and halos from low-quality JPEG images.

The above is in the basic mode of image denoising. If you check "adovanced" in the dialog box, you can also switch to advanced mode. In advanced mode, the image can be reduced to noise on each channel, as shown in Figure 44.
　　 v. Intelligent sharpening Filters

The Intelligent Sharpening Filter uses the new operation method, can better carry on the edge detection, reduces the sharpness produces the Halo shadow, thus further improves the image edge detail.

　　 Practice

The first step: Save the picture below to a location and use Photoshop CS2 to open it. 　
Step Two: Select "filter" → "sharpen" → "Smart sharpen" (filter → sharpen → intelligent sharpening), open the Smart Sharpening dialog box, as shown in Figure 45, set the options in the dialog box to observe the effect in the preview box, set the click OK.
Figure 46 is the contrast before and after sharpening, you can use other sharpening tools to sharpen the same picture to see the difference between the intelligent sharpening tool and them. 　　 Six, spot Repair tool

The new Spot healing tool can quickly remove spots and stains from your photos without having to make a selection of stains in advance. For people engaged in facial processing, such as wedding Photo studio, the tool can greatly improve work efficiency.

　　 Practice

The first step: Save the following figure to a location on your computer, and then open it using Photoshop CS2.
Step two: Select the Spot Healing tool in the Toolbox, and then click in the picture where the person's face is spotted, and if the results are not good, press ctrl+z or use the history panel to undo the operation again, and when necessary, press [or] key to adjust the brush size. When removing large black dots on the pen, it is necessary to enlarge the view and then repeat the operation with a small brush.

As shown in Figure 47, compare the effects before and after removing the spots, pay attention to the forehead and nose. The entire process takes just a minute or two, and from this example, you can get a glimpse of Photoshop CS2 improvements in usability.
　　 Seven, click once to fix red eye

　　 What is red eye?

When photographing a portrait with a digital camera, red eye sometimes appears, because in the light of the darker environment, the flash flash will make the eye of the pupil instantaneous amplification, the retina of the blood vessels are reflected in the end of the film, resulting in red eye phenomenon. You can remove red-eye by using image processing software such as Photoshop, PhotoSuite, Paint shop Pro, and fireworks.

Photoshop CS2 The new Red Eye correction tool is simple enough to fix red eye with a single click on the eye, which allows you to adjust the pupil size and the number of dark parts.

　　 Practice

The first step: Save the following figure to a location on your computer, and then open it using Photoshop CS2.
Step two: Select the red Eye tool--red Eye tool from the Toolbox, and then click once (even without making any settings) on the pink pupil, and you will immediately see that the red-eye disappears, as shown in Figure 48, which is simply convenient to the extreme.
　　 Viii. new Blur filter

There are three new blur filters in Photoshop CS2: Box Blur, Shape Blur, Surface Blur. These three filters can be found in the "filter" → "Blur" menu.

　　 Box Blur
This filter is available only in Photoshop and is a base blurred image based on the average of adjacent pixel colors, which is useful for creating effects.
　　 Shape Blur
The filter is only available in Photoshop and is blurred using the specified graphic as the Blur center.
　　 Surface Blur
This filter is available only in Photoshop, which retains the edge of the image while blurring the image, and can be used to create special effects and to remove clutter and particles.
