Experience in Windows XP system installation using USB flash drive PE

I. FAQs

1. Why install windows with PE ?)

Because:

(1) fast

(2) No optical drive is required. It is applicable to laptops without Optical Drive.

(3) because you can use a virtual optical drive in PE (see figure 1 below), you can directly install the drive without unlocking the ISO file, reducing the trouble

2. Why do I only discuss how to use a USB flash drive or a CD to start PE to install Windows XP?

Because the core file of the NT (2000, XP) system is required for the installation of the PE hard disk, it is generally okay when the C disk has a system, if the disk C is empty, it will be more troublesome (for example, I first used the drive C when I re-installed Fang Xiaochuan's notebook). In view of the popularity of the USB flash drive and CD boot PE, therefore, this article only discusses how to start PE to install Windows XP through a USB flash disk or a CD. The reason is that after the hard disk starts PE, the C disk is formatted (if the C disk cannot be formatted, it is caused by op. wim files are used. You can copy the virtual optical drive software vdm out, and run the external tool uninstallation function on the desktop to format it normally.) The method of installing windows is relatively simple, you can use a virtual optical drive to load the ISO file. If you fail to install the original Windows XP file, you can use the solution provided later in this article.

Ii. Use Process

1. First, you must have a USB boot disk. It is recommended that you use the old peach boot disk. Although it has not been updated for a long time, there is no need to modify the good stuff. Download the old peach PE image and use the virtual optical drive to install it.

2. Directly install the downloaded xp iso image on the original system with a virtual optical drive. It can be installed, but the system does not change after restart (it is still the previous XP ). Decompress the ISO file without using a virtual Optical Drive.

3. first installation: After the device is started, adjust the bost startup option. Press F12 on Lenovo ThinkPad to enter the quick selection menu, select the start media, and use the created PE to enter the system, remove the drive C (this was a stupid method later). Use the virtual drive manager in PE to load the ISO, and then start the installation. After the third stage (prepare for installation, restart is required. To avoid entering PE after restart, unplug the USB flash disk, and the result shows an error, the system cannot be guided to the fourth stage, and the original system cannot be started due to drive C.

4. second installation: refer to the post. After loading ISO, copy the virtual drive manager single file version in the external tool to the desktop and unplug the USB flash disk (because the pe program runs in the memory after loading, so pulling out the USB flash drive does not affect the computer. You can also run the virtual optical drive before pulling out the drive ). The default installation is required. Restart and restart the system. Step 4 install the program. The installation is complete.

3. Notes

(1) USB flash drive installation. Because the USB flash drive needs to be pulled out before installation, the ISO file cannot be stored on the USB flash drive and must be copied to a hard drive partition other than drive C ..

(2) without pulling out, the installer will install the boot file into the USB flash drive. during the preparation phase, the USB flash drive will flash (with read/write operations ), the ending is that the drive C cannot be started, and the PE in the USB flash drive is also broken (several times ).

(3) I don't know how other people do it. Don't operate it blindly. I did not know it after I broke the C drive. If the original system was not bad, I could use ghost to install it directly, in the original system, use a virtual optical drive to load the ghost image file (ISO). After installation, You can overwrite the C drive at restart, which I think is more convenient.
