"Experiment name"
RIP routing Protocol basic Configuration.
"Experimental Purpose"
Master How to configure on the router RIP routing protocol.
"Background description"
Assuming that the campus network is geographically divided into 2 regions, each of which has a router connected to 2 subnets, two routers need to be connected together via an Ethernet link and configured appropriately to achieve this 4 Interconnection between subnets. In order to expand the number of subnets in each future campus area, the administrator does not need to change the configuration of the router at the same time, planning to use RIP routing protocol to achieve interoperability between subnets.
"Demand Analysis" two routers are connected by a Fast Ethernet port , 2 Loopback ports are set up on each router, the RIP routing protocol is run on all ports , and interoperability between all subnets is realized.
"Experimental Equipment"
Router 2 units
"Pre-knowledge"
the router works and basic configuration method, distance vector routing protocol, How RIP works and how to configure it
"Experimental principle"
RIP(routinginformation protocols, routing Information Protocol) is an earlier, more commonly used IGP(Interior Gateway Protocol , internal Gateway Protocol), suitable for small-scale homogeneous networks, is a typical distance vector (distance-vector) protocol.
The RIP protocol measures the path overhead as a hop count, and the RIP protocol specifies a maximum hop count of 15.
RIP uses 3 timers when constructing the routing table : Updating timers, invalid timers, and refreshing timers. It allows each router to periodically send a complete routing table to each neighboring neighbor. The routing table includes information about each network or subnet, and the metrics associated with it.
"Experimental Steps"
Step 1 Configure the host name, interface IP address of the two routers.
