Liu Jiang, editor-in-chief of Turing, commented on the jolt award on his blog:
Jolt claims that the award has been called by many other media as an Oscar for the software industry. It makes sense that the software industry does not seem to have any other similar general awards with a wide impact, it has a long history and has been stuck to the present.
However, you must note that this award was awarded by a selection committee and you have to pay for it. Commercial factors and "Board Design" issues (an anti-pattern, see the book anti-pattern published by Turing) exist.
In fact, as of today, the Book Award is truly valuable in general. (The second is the few website and Hall of Fame Awards .) If there is a slight deviation between the winners in the last few years, there are basically not many classic books missing over the past decade (the selection in the early years is particularly accurate), and the reference value is still very large, it can be used as a benchmark in the technical library field.
The official jolt awards website provides a brief introduction of the process from nominate, shortlisted, and final selection:
What information should I submit during the nomination??
Contact information, category, subclass, supplemental product information (optional), competitive product advantages, costs.
How was the shortlisted list determined?
The judges will evaluate the application form, submitted supplementary materials, product influence, their familiarity with the product, online review, peer review, and information provided on the website. We strongly recommend that you submit a 5-minute Flash video, PowerPoint, or webinar at the same time during the nomination to give a Key introduction to the core features of the product.
How is the final award list determined?
The judges will not only consider some typical standards (productivity, innovation, return on investment, quality, etc.), but also strive to find industry-leading products. The award-winning products are widely used, simple and feature-rich, which has an impact on the industry or solves a problem that has existed for a long time and has been avoided by other products or books.
