It is not difficult for the applications of Wireless LAN, whether in the home or enterprise. This article describes how to set up a home wireless LAN. The content is very detailed. Basically, through this article, we generally set up a home wireless WLAN.

Step 1: select the Networking Mode

The networking method of the home wireless LAN is different from that of the wired LAN. The simplest and most convenient way is to select the peer network, it is centered on a Wireless AP or a wireless router (a HUB or a switch is used for a traditional wired LAN). Other computers communicate with each other through a wireless network adapter, Wireless AP, or a wireless router.

This networking mode has the features of easy installation, strong scalability, and easy troubleshooting. In addition, there is also a peer-to-peer network mode that implements data transmission directly through a wireless AP or a wireless router through a wireless network card. However, it is relatively difficult to set the distance and network between computers.

Step 2: hardware Installation

Below, we take TP-LINK TL-WR245 1.0 Wireless Broadband Router, TP-LINK TL-WN250 2.2 Wireless Network Interface (PCI interface) as an example.

Turn off the computer, open the hosts box, insert the wireless network card into the idle PCI slot of the motherboard, and restart. After you re-enter the Windows XP system, the system prompts "new hardware found" and tries to automatically install the NIC driver. The "find new hardware wizard" dialog box is displayed for manual installation. Click the "auto install software" option to insert the drive disk that comes with the NIC into the optical drive, and click the "Next" button to install the driver. Click "finish.

Open the "Device Manager" dialog box, and we can see that the "Network Adapter" already has a wireless network card installed.

After the wireless network card is successfully installed, a connection icon will appear in the Windows XP system taskbar (the "wireless network connection" icon will be added in the "Network Connection" window ), right-click the icon and select the "view available wireless connections" command. The displayed dialog box displays the available wireless networks. Select this network, click "Connect" to connect to the wireless network.

Next, select a suitable location in the room to place the wireless router and connect to the power supply. To ensure wireless Internet access in the future, you need to place it close to the Internet network endpoint. In addition, we need to pay attention to the distance between the wireless router and the computer with a wireless network card installed, because the wireless signal may be affected by the distance, wall-mounted performance, and the long distance will affect the receiving signal and data transmission speed, it is best to ensure that it is within 30 meters.

Step 3: Set up the network environment

After the hardware is installed, we also need to configure the Wireless AP, wireless router, and the corresponding wireless client separately.

(1) set up a wireless router

Before configuring a wireless router, read the user manual provided with the product carefully to learn about the default Management IP address and access password. For example, the default Management IP address of our wireless router is 192.168.1.1 and the access password is admin.

After connecting to the wireless network, open IE, enter 192.168.1.1 in the address box, enter the logon user name and password (the default user name is blank), and click "OK" to go to the router settings page. Click "Basic settings" in the left-side window and set the IP address in the window on the right. The default value is 192.168.1.1. In the "Wireless Settings" option group, make sure to select "allow ", in the "SSID" option, you can set the name of the wireless LAN and select the default number in the "channel" option. In the "WEP" option, you can select whether to enable the key, disabled by default.
