Article Title: Look at the flowers and explore the LINUX version. Linux is a technology channel of the IT lab in China. Includes basic categories such as desktop applications, Linux system management, kernel research, embedded systems, and open source.
Any software has a version number, and LINUX is no exception. However, LINUX "inherits" the chaotic characteristics of the UNIX version, which brings a lot of trouble to LINUX enthusiasts. In fact, it is not difficult to master the LINUX version number. There are two types of LINUX versions: kernel version and release version.
I. Linux kernel version The Linux kernel version refers to the version number of the system kernel developed by the development team under the leadership of Linus. The LINUX kernel has two different versions: The experimental version and the product version. To determine the LINUX version type, check the version number. Each version number consists of three digits. The second digit indicates the version type. If the second digit is an even number, it indicates that this version is a productized version. If it is an odd number, it indicates that it is an experimental version. For example, 2.0.34 is a product version and 2.1.56 is an experiment version. The two versions of LINUX are interrelated. The experimental version was originally a copy of The productized product, and then the productized version only changed the error. The experimental version continued to add new features. After the experimental version test proved stable, it was copied to the new productized version, which kept repeating. As shown in:

In this way, the majority of software personnel can be added to the development and testing of LINUX, and some users can use stable LINUX versions. Development and practicality are both true and false. The latest LINUX kernel version is 2.2.0.
Ii. Release of LINUX Some organizations or manufacturers package the LINUX system kernel and application software and documents for ease of use, and provide some installation interfaces and system settings and management tools, this constitutes a release suite. Compared with the kernel version, the version number of the release kit varies with the publisher and is relatively independent from the version number of the system kernel.
1. Slackware Linux
This is the first LINUX release kit. It is suitable for experienced Linux veterans who want to learn how the system works and want to install and compile their own software. However, fewer and fewer people are using this suite. We do not recommend that you use it.
2. RedHat Linux
This is the most popular release suite. It is named after a person with a red hat as a mascot. It once became synonymous with Linux. It supports many hardware platforms and has excellent installation interfaces, unique RPM upgrade methods, rich software packages, good security performance, and convenient system management interfaces. I personally think it is the best suite. The most common versions are 6.2, 6.5, 7.0, and 7.1. I prefer 6.5, which is relatively stable. 7.0 has many bugs, and 7.1 does not do well. This may be the reason why it was surpassed by the competitor manarke!
I think if you really want to use Linux, install Redhat.
3. Debian Linux
Released by the Free Software Foundation and fully maintained by LINUX enthusiasts on the network. Rich software, easy upgrade, strong connection between software, and better security. However, the release kit has been updated too frequently and is difficult to grasp. In addition, it is difficult to obtain it in China. Is the most pure Linux. Now many Linux users are using it.
4. Mandarke Linux
Its mascot is a black magic hat, which is made based on Redhat. It inherits many Redhat advantages and adds many functions that cater to Linux beginners, such as the beautiful graphical installation interface. Version 7.0 has matured and won many users. Moreover, the new version 8.0 makes Mandarke the first place in the Linux release. A friend who just got out of Windows can try it. Pretty good.
5. BluePoint Linux
I think it's the most successful Chinese version of Linux. To put it bluntly, the blue dot is still a very innovative and well-dug Linux vendor. But its stability is not very good. I think it is suitable for desktop and not for server.
6. Turbo Linux
A well-performed Chinese Linux release, but its hardware does not support it and there is no technical innovation. There is no merit.
7. Red-Flag Linux
A Linux release with an official background. It looks like RedHat.
